I used to be on Answerbag.
When they changed it, it seemed harder to participate.
I’m sure it was me, but I gave up on it.
I heard about Fluther when one of the AB folks that I sort of got a kick out of dropped out and left a message behind that he was coming to Fluther. I checked it out and here I am.
It seems a lot like the old AB except for the mods. That gives Fluther a sort of “school-marmish” feel. But it is not bad.
Anyway, I lost interest in AB.
I miss TJoeBaxter however. Yo!

I tried to use Answerbag (after whatever big change happened) but it confused me.

@josie -I miss her too!
AB is not fun anymore

josie's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille – I actually returned to AB once and left Baxter a message and asked her to come with me to Fluther.
She said was too busy with kids and school.
Oh well, at least she didn’t say she was washing her hair.

@josie -XD I tried to get her to come here too!
She was funny:)

There are quite a few intelligent and thought provoking people and good material, but most of it is flooded by a massive crowd of immature pricks who can’t spell. And some of the old timers seem extremely vicious against the people that left, although they probbaly forgot it at this point.
Still, it’s just not worth it for me anymore, and I already thought it to be shoddy at best to begin with, what with ninja mods, point harvesters and people bitching about downrates and trolls constantly.

Constantly.

What it’s like now, the best way I can put, it’s like a giant earthworm filled with arrows, swords and wounds that’s speeding and crashing through everything without knowing where it’s going. The layout is lame and the majority of the user base ask things like ’‘if you were having a threesome with Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Kruiger, which killer would have what hole?’’

What have they done to my horror section.

Anyways I denno, it seems that with the changes, they were aiming for the most immature and retarded people you can find on the internet.

I did meet many good and fun people there though, I won’t deny that. But fucks if I can find any of them on there anymore lol.

I never regarded AB as a place to go to ask relevant questions or give legitimate answers it was more of an electronic play ground to explore the irreverent and sometimes dark recesses of the mind. They have a section devoted to the offbeat musings of the mind that were ofter fertile fields for some serious goofing around. It was also very easy to track your friends where they were and you could directly comment to a comment which kept the threads from getting hijacked even though hijacking threads was fun on it’s own. Mods were hardly part of the equation if ever as the members did a pretty swift job of trolls on their own. Then things got turned upside down and a lot migrated here. I have always wondered what happened to Mrs. Anonymous?? ;)

I was a really high-level member on Answerbag for a long time… I had been on there since… like, 2008 or so? Anyway, it used to be great before the changes. Now, it’s basically what would happen if Yahoo Answers raped Facebook and had a demonic bastard baby.

I, too was a member of Answerbag for many years. i gradually began to see a big change coming, concerning a concept that i did not like. Answerbag lost control of its members and changed the format, which only added insult to injury. Answerbag went from an A question and answer site, to a D in a big hurry. those that wanted to leave, by word of mouth, settled into Fluther. I like the moderators that keep the trash off the air and hopefully back to Answerbag. it was good, while it lasted…....Answerbag, that is.

@Cruiser Hmmmm…I wonder…. XD

@Symbeline, thank you, m’dear.

Before the “big change,” Answerbag was, by far, the best Q&A site anywhere. Answers were moderated much like here on Fluther, but conversation was carried out at a third level with comments hanging under each answer (just like comments on Fluther are at a second level hanging under the main question). Answers were just that—answers to the question, and were moderated much like here on Fluther, but comments weren’t (except for personal attacks and spam), which worked very well. The “big change” pretty much quashed all the chit chat in comments, and that basically killed the site for all us “old timers.”

The “improvements” improved all the fun out of the site for me. It was never all that great a place to get a legitimate answer to a straightforward question anyway. I still check in, because my old Q&A still gets some comments and I feel obligated to follow up on ones that need a response. But I’m not likely to go back to routine posting there.

I’m on AnswerBag… it’s full of spammers and trolls… but its good for a laugh… I check my account usually every two days to see if I received any Alerts

I was on there for quite a while; I believe that, at two weeks shy of 6 years, I was the longest still-active member on there when I left. I liked the old format and the old crowd. (Well, I should say “middle” format, as I was there before the points system, making this the third major revision of AB I’ve seen.)

The first day of the new format was a bit of a rude shock. The design was so horrid that even my non-tech-savvy wife thought it was coded by spastic monkeys. I made a comment directed rather vaguely at, “Whoever thought this was a good idea” that was taken as a personal threat and wound up getting thrown in the Penalty Box for the first time ever merely for voicing an opinion in the same manner as I had been posting for years without incident.

While they did add a couple of features I had wanted for years, they also screwed up a lot of things that had been working well for years, ditching them in favor of a clusterfuck. Not only did they alienate a lot of people, they acted outright disrespectful to many of us old-timers. (I guess they wanted to justify hiring their own paid experts…)

I lasted less than a week under the new regime, and left with a bad taste in my mouth. I occasionally go back, but can’t stay there for more than a few minutes without the fucktardedness of the new layout getting to me, and that doesn’t count the anti-old-timer regime (both mods and users) that took over.

My opinion is that they can all eat flaming horse cocks. They don’t know much about web design or coding, they definitely don’t know how to keep decent people around, and they aren’t exactly nice about it either. Anybody ruder and/or more egotistical than me is a complete asshole, and that includes many of the new regime there.

I am happy to see that most of the people I liked on AB (like Mr Pennington) migrated here. The only thing I really miss is Chief’s witticisms, but I have his email and phone number, so I can still get a dose without having to endure the inanity that is the new and fuckproved AB. Occasionally butting heads with Glenn Blaylock was also fun, but I think I can pick a fight anywhere :P

HungryGuy's avatar

@jerv – Yeah! Let’s count our blessings that the Blaylocks didn’t decide to come over to Fluther :-/

jerv's avatar

@HungryGuy I was actually quite friendly with Glenn after we reached an understanding. Bob… not so much.

TexasDude's avatar

There was more than one Blaylock?

Brian1946's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard

Yep- Forklift Bob and Glenn are bro’s.

TexasDude's avatar

Well shit.

ETpro's avatar

@Brian1946 Who would have guessed I’d have to move here to finally learn Glenn had a brother?

Brian1946's avatar

@ETpro

Lol- that’s ironic and perhaps fortunate.

Brian1946's avatar

Once the changes at AB became metastatic, I renamed it Cancerbag.

HungryGuy's avatar

@jerv – Yes, Glenn was obviously more intelligent than his brother Bob. Bob was a totally rude ignoramus. Glenn was a clever liar who would slander anyone who pointed out the hypocrisy of his pedophilish religious beliefs.

Mikewlf337's avatar

I’ll be honest I hate Answerbag. It is full of a bunch of people who like to run their mouthes but are too cowardly to do it in person. If you disagree with someone they attack you for it. If you believe in a religion they redicule you for it. Everyone generalizes but people on Answerbag do it on a whole new level. If you don’t agree with the clique they label you a moron. Tons of loaded questions that only start arguments where the clique gangs up on a few. It use to be a good site but now that all the decent people left it has become a wasteland.

jerv's avatar

Well, it’s what Demand Media wanted, so let them reap what they have sown. I am happy in my new home.

Taciturnu's avatar

I’m an AB refugee, too.

I loved that site. There were a lot of great people there. (Hell, just scroll up the thread!)

I like @ETpro‘s coined term of the “Big Change.” It certainly was a big change, and it drove a lot of people out of there. Like @jerv, I too am happy in my new home. :)
