How do I salvage my pretzels?

Asked by hug_of_war (10735points) November 11th, 2010

I made homemade soft pretzels but forgot to spray the baking sheet with non-stick spray :( Now they are stuck, is there anything I can do?

How stuck is stuck? You can probably just pull them off and eat the majority of the pretzel. They won’t be pretty, but certainly edible. Is your concern with clean-up, or edibility?

Slide a spatula, pancake turner, or sharp knife under them.

You can try to gently steam them off. It works if they are not too badly stuck.

You bring water to a boil in a pan on the stove, then turn off the heat and place the sheet with the pretzels over the pan.

You can also try melting some butter and work it around the stuck edges of the pretzels with a spatula or knife.

thanks everyone, the sharp knife trick worked really well once I let them cool a bit :)

How did they turn out?

I bet they’d be really good with spicy mustard. Mmm!!!

I never heard of making your own pretzels! I live in the land of no decent pretzels available, would you share your recipe, please!
