Possible ear infection. Get it checked. In the mean time maybe an asprin may help.

Yes, stress can cause this. Stress can really mess you up.

Got your wisdom teeth out yet? Could be from that. No suppressed emotion that sounds like hocus pocus, say, stress. Stress could cause it, but I think it’s from teeth. Or your sinuses. Or it’s the result of your neck being misaligned, see a chiropractor. Or acupuncture.

Or it could be something serious. If it was a really strong pain and it was atypical, I would get to a doctor to have it checked out.

I get the same if I have been drinking (and even not drinking) and get dehydrated. My advice is drink a lot of water and take a nap. That helps me. But it rarely happens to me. Like once per month. It feels like my brain is being stabbed above my right ear.

But I am not a doctor and you should talk to yours. Mine suggested dental problems. Dentist found nothing abnormal (I have had my wisdom teeth out). Water and sleep helps. I am not your doctor.

It could be TMJ pain. It can cause pain in and around the ear, the head and neck.

When you rub there, is a thick vein throbbing? Did you have a sudden adrenaline rush? Did you neglect your usual caffiene or sugar intake for the day? I know any and all of those will make a ropey vein above my ears starts to throb and the pain shoots behind an eye. Goes away quick with salty fried food and a full tilt soda pop.

Try drinking a cup of coffee. This will even out the blood vessels and cause the blood to flow at a more even rate, preventing a bottlenecking traffic jam of blood cells. This is how pain many headaches happen. Furthermore, you can take aspirin to help reduce inflammation in the painful areas, which will further reduce internal swelling, and thus pain. If you want you can even take some tylenol… this will help with the localized fever near the pain due to inflammation. Actually, take some excedrin, it has all three in perfect concentrations and will help you solve your pain problems.
