Is there a website to view death certificates on line?

Asked by JenBatka (7points) November 13th, 2010

I am doing some genealogy and having trouble finding some relatives. These would have passed away in the early 1900’s in New York. Given the electronic world we live in I want it now, not by ordering a copy from the correct office in New York. Thanks !

This website may help you http://www.deathindexes.com/newyork/index.html. It provides a quite extensive list of websites that provide various death records for New York state. I found it by googling “new york death certificates 1900s.” Good luck.

Hi, here’s another website that might be useful. Or this one

I would not think so unless you have access to your state’s vital records database.

@perspicacious For genealogists, we want to get our hands on old death certificates and many of them are available (for viewing and for ordering a copy) online. I think most states only make them available after 75 years. In my state, vital stats is a separate database from the historical society where you go to get an old one for research.

@Kayak8 I didn’t know that. Thanks!
