What exactly is Celtic Christianity?

Asked by madmax303 (262points) November 13th, 2010

I have heard about this and I want to know more about it. Is it still practiced today? How does it compare to catholic? How does it compare to other types of western Christianity?

During the Dark Ages there was a period when communication between Rome and the British Isles was cut off by barbarian invasions. During this period, Christians in Britain and Ireland drifted off in their own direction in certain matters, but they never broke away from the Catholic Church. I’m pretty sure the differences were mainly disciplinary, liturgical, and organizational rather than doctrinal. When communication was re-established, Christians in the British Isles were brought back into conformity with the rest of Western Europe.

There are some modern groups that claim to practice a distinctively Celtic version of Christianity that is somehow linked to this past.

Would’ve been more logical if celtic christianity was just christianity after it’s mixing with the beliefs of the people the romans conquered. Cool story bro.
