What are you thankful and not thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Asked by vade66 (68points) November 18th, 2010

As we all know, Thanksgiving is nearing. So, I was watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and started thinking of what I was thankful for. Then I thought ‘I wonder what the whole world is thankful for’. What are you thankful for? What are you NOT thankful for? (I’d suggest making a list. It’s easier for me to read. I don’t know why!)
Thank you!

I am thankful that I get to eat Turkey and stuffing and mashed potatos and sweet potatos and string bean casserole, and cranberry sauce and corn and pumpkin pie and ice cream. Its the best holiday of them all. I have the greatest stuffing recipe of all time.

I am thankful for all the problems I have in life. They teach me more than anything else.

I am not thankful for all the problems I have in life. They hurt. Sometimes really, really badly.

I’m thankful for:
My husband, son, and the rest of our family.
My friends.
That my surgery was successful.
That we were able to get pregnant while my husband was home on leave.
That this deployment is almost over!
That I have a nice, warm house and a comfortable bed to sleep in each night.
That I have plenty of food to eat whenever I get these crazy cravings.
That I have a wonderful doctor who is monitoring my pregnancy closely.

I’m not thankful for the fact that my husband had to spend the majority of this year overseas and that I have a subchorionic hematoma.

Everything! Even the things that I don’t like. But the truth is, everything that I’ve been through, everything that I’ve learned has made me who I am today. But most of all, I’m thankful for God. Above all things I have ever said I am thankful for at Thanksgiving dinner, I am most thankful for God.

All the blessings I have had. A good family, a good job. Many good friends, my good health. My children, and the luck I had having my parents. My luck with finances, and my luck finding the woman who is my wife. My country, my state. Good, clean water. The enormous bounty of food at my fingertips. The forgiveness and love of my Savior.
So many suffer, so many have less. I wish everyone was so blessed.

I am thankful for small children and old dogs, sunny days, rainy days, any sort of day that I’m still here. I’m thankful for my beloved wife, my children and granchildren, and having grown up in a time of relative peace and prosperity. I am thankful for all living things. I’m thankful for my Nation, the State of Texas, and my local community. I’m thankful for a comfortable bed, hot food, and decent clothes to wear. I’m thankful for the many friends whom I have come to know and love over the years. And I am thankful to God for walking with me all the days of my life, for protecting me when I walked in harm’s way, and for allowing me to enjoy the life he led me to.

I’m thankful for the fact that we don’t do Thanksgiving in the UK and therefore I don’t have to worry about entertaining relatives that I don’t particularly want to entertain.

Thankful: visiting with my family.
Not thankful: having to get on an airplane to do it.

I just said at church “It’s been about three months since Asher died. I’m just so thankful that I have all of you, because there are people out there who are going through the same thing, and they don’t have anyone.”
So that’s what I’m thankful for this year. People who listen, and offer support when I need them.

I’m not thankful for this terrible headache that I have right now. :/
