What weird thing do you collect?

Asked by awomanscorned (11261points) November 20th, 2010

I have a collection of miniature turtles. Plastic, wooden, glass, metal… they’re all tiny turtles. I dunno why, but I love tiny turtles.

Please note if you collect anything gross, I will judge you. But you probably won’t care because you’re a weirdo.

Digital data, it’s a weird one I know, and most would not even consider it a collection, on the basis that its not physical, but i do have quite a pile of hard drives.

Miniatures of buildings. Every time I go somewhere, I like to bring back one of those touristy models of whatever famous building is in that place. Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Statue of Liberty, World Trade Center, Space Needle, Mount Rushmore, etc. It’s just sort of become a tradition now. We have a little shelf covered with these ridiculous miniatures.

Phone numbers. I find them written on scrap paper wedged between the pages of a library book, on fliers around campus, web sites, or posted on someone’s Facebook wall. I don’t know these people and will never call them, but I have their numbers written in a moleskine. One day, I’ll put together my own phone book of strangers.

Other than that, I have the perfectly normal hobby of collecting books.

“Tiny turtles” is a deliciously alliterative phrase :)

Anything polar bear: Stuffed animals, calenders, keychains, night lights, lamps, a rug, several blankets.
I have a 3ft tall ceramic polar bear statue sitting in my room by my door and a multitude of little ceramic figurines on my desk and dresser. I have a polar bear sweater, but um yeah…that’s just for decoration. I ain’t wearin’ it out in public. XD

I don’t think I have a weird thing I collect. Whatever I collect is something a million others collect. I know a person who collects joker cards. I knew a kid who seriously tried to collect his own boogers (yes it was gross) and fortunately that didn’t last long.

I think the only weird thing I collect is pine cones. I have some huge cones that I brought to Illinois when I moved back here from California. I have some itty bitty ones from the UP of Michigan and Wisconsin.

I also collect coffee mugs and t shirts when I travel, anything north woods related, and anything to do with frogs, but these things I don’t consider weird.

I am talking about gay furry porn. The best kind of porn.
I also have this huge collection of human spines. My Targ loves to chew on them.

Mikewlf337's avatar

@ragingloli LOL I don’t have much porn. I probobly one of the few guys who have a very small porn collection. I hope nobody finds them though. I will be made fun of to no end. It’s striaght porn but not the usual porn and no it isnt bdsm.

Frankoma pottery. And Roombas.

@Vunessuh
My brother in law insisted on exporting his massive polar bear collection with him when he moved to Israel. We managed to stuff a 4-foot-tall stuffed bear into a duffel bag!

Well, I’m trying to collect slave girls, but they keep running away :-(

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

Rocks.
I used to catch them in buckets as they fell out of the heads of my dates…if I was lucky. Sometimes it would just be a puff of smoke.;)

Vunessuh's avatar

@crisw That’s awesome. Damn, the lengths we’ll go for our collections.

@HungryGuy What are you talking about? I’m still here. XD

Pengiuns (but of course) and teapots

janbb's avatar

No – but that’s cute! Most of my teapots are handcrafted or antiques.

Did you know that the urge to collect is programmed into the human DNA?
I collect rocks.

Frank Zappa albums. I have a lot and that scares some people.

I collect thimbles. I look for them at every souvenir shop I visit, and have them from Australia, Italy, Greece, etc. It’s to record places I’ve been, like Mamradpivo.

I collect coffee mugs even though I don’t drink coffee.

I used to collect miniture turtles too! I planned to get one from every country I went to but that didn’t work out. Let’s see, I had a classy bronze one, a painted wooden one, one made out of little shells and a ceramic one. Think that’s all.

My wife likes to collect any kind of rooster nick- knacks whether porcelain or painted metal. I think they’re pretty cool too. I like to hang on to any kind of metal boxes like Altoids, etc. I like the fact there are still things made with metal and the little boxes are usually colorful and somewhat useful. And it’s still difficult to resist the occasional AK-47 magazine from a country I don’t have. Still trying to work up the nerve to get one made out of Bakelite. Mucho expensive and won’t work any better than a 8 dollar one.

A couple years ago I found a leg in a lake. It is plastic and very muscular, clearly from an action figure. Last summer I found a tiny plastic naked figure with no head in the bay.

Now that I have two, I’m officially collecting dismembered body parts found in bodies of water.

Halloween themed panties and thongs from the dollar store.

jonsblond's avatar

@Symbeline Dollar General sells thongs? You’ve got to be shitting me. I admit, I’ve never looked for them there.

Berserker's avatar

Dollarama here. But gas stations here also sell beer and wine, so it’s not very surprising.
