Out of these vintage cameras, which one do you like best?

Asked by Jude (32198points) November 24th, 2010

They’d be going up on a wall shelf and are around the same price.

Cameras.

I think Pretty as a picture looks the coolest.

I like the 1920’s No 2A or the Contessa

Well, I have this one myself, and I get a lot of actual use out of it.

It takes great pictures, too.

So yeah, I recommend that one since I have a bit of first hand experience with it.

You probably ought to check out the Kodak 35 Rangefinder as well. I have one of those too, and It’s very “you” in my opinion. :-)

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard Nice!

I’d say the Contessa because I’ve never seen one in person before, but most people won’t be able to tell the difference between these cameras.

Must admit I’m drawn to the Contessa too.

I don’t know if everyone is looking at the detail photos. The Contessa looks cute in the first photo because it is head on (not showing the bellows). But look at the detail photos of each camera. You’ll see that they are both collapsing bellows cameras. Then look at the chrome work on the rails of the Kodak vs the Kodak Contessa. The non Contessa is much more ornate with the chrome rails (stainless steel?) that extends the lens.

To the OP… you’ll also notice there is a flange on the front of the bellows box. That flange flips out so that the cameras will stand on their own. The details shot of the Contessa shows it falling forward without the flange flipped.

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies I get what you’re saying. The Contessa is a much prettier camera, I feel, but, the Kodak is in way better condition. I do like the fact that the Kodak has a flange that flips out; easy to display on a shelf.

Hmm, I’m not sure what to do.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

they are both kodak cameras and they both have the flange. they’re just not using it on the contessa.

the price for these is quite high. better price and variety on ebay. search for vintage camera.

For instance, here is a Kodak Junior Autograph model for $10. The flap on the back side opens up and you would actually write a caption onto the film emulsion with a stylus. When the negative is developed, your handwriting appears as a caption.

That little Kodak Autograph even has the stylus… rare to be complete with that. You can see it in the details photos just under the Autograph plate.

Have fun with it!

I’d bet Craigslist has even more bargains than eBay.

Just search for vintage camera.

arrggghhh! now you’ve got me browsing too!

Here’s a colorful little Premo ending in 10 minutes!

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies what are your thoughts on this one?

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

That’s very unique with the rangefinder on the body instead of a prism viewer on the lens. Plus the leather(ette) covers on the chrome rails are a nice touch the others don’t have. Looks to be in great shape too!
