Comodo is good, but not great. It is solid enough to keep you mostly safe, but I have yet to see it in any “Top picks” list.

For anti-virus, I favor Avira Free. According to AV Comparatives, it is one of the most effective at 99.8% (G-Data got 99.9%, and Trustport tied it at 99.8%), is second only to Avast! in scanning speed (15.1MB/sec), and consistently rates “Advance +” in their tests (others may fluctuate, but Avira is consistent). Other sources also place it pretty high, and it earns extra points as it is free.

Defender Pro 15 in 1.

Its at WalMart and is beyond great. at the first sign of a virus, it will shut your computer down, in order to protect it.

I prefer Prevx. General antimalware. Shutting down your computer when a virus is found sounds batshit crazy :P

The best antivirus for best results on your PC is sat in your PC chair.

I use AVG Free, and haven’t had an issue with malware for years.

@the100thmonkey I have only ever had one virus on my PC, and AVG Free was on guard at the time, so I am a little biased :/
Also, AV-Comparatives rated AVG at 98.3% effective; not bad, but 1.5% lower than what I have.
You are entirely correct that the most effective thing that can protect a computer from viruses (or most other problems) is sitting in front of the monitor.

@phoebusg I never heard of Prevx. However, I agree that shutting your PC down upon detecting a virus is sheer lunacy. I vastly prefer a warning dialog saying that a certain virus was detected in a certain file and asking me whether to clean, quarantine, or delete it without going through a lengthy shut-down or an even longer restart :P

@jerv Thanks for the tip on Avira. I had a virus attack with AVG as well. I’ll check it out.
