IPhone 4 taking mail off of server after receiving?

Asked by FiRE_MaN (684points) December 1st, 2010

My mom just got herself an iphone 4 and she expects me to set it up for her, her mail and contacts and stuff, so I added her AOL mail to the phone but when she checks it on her phone it appears to take it off of the AOL server because when she logs into her AOL account from a computer the message that she checked on her phone is not in her inbox at all. I have a 3GS iphone but i use yahoo mail and I have never had a problem like this. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

If the account is using the POP system for retrieving mail, there will be a setting allowing you to delete files on the server once they have been downloaded to a device. You need to turn this option off so files are available on both the web and on the iPhone.

Depending on how the account is set up, this might work: in the ‘Mail, Contacts and Calendars’ section of the iPhone settings tap the Yahoo account, scroll down and tap ‘Advanced’, in the Advanced there is a setting called ‘Delete from Server’ which you want to set to ‘Never’.
