3rd Party Mac Spell Checker?

Asked by ctferrarajr (270points) December 2nd, 2010

I am looking for a replacement to my mac’s built in spell checker. I NEED to be able to spell correct on the fly using only the keyboard. I cannot stand taking my hands off the keyboard to correct for my spelling errors, and with the way it is currently i can find no way around this. Thanks

Are you aware that Mac OS X has a built in auto-correct spellchecker? Right click in the text field you are typing in & from that pop-up menu, click on ‘Spelling and Grammar’ & then check off ‘Correct Spelling Automatically’. Hopefully that is what you are inquiring about.

@rpm_pseud0name Thanks for your input but i have tried that and it is far to inaccurate to be used all the time for me. I am essentially looking for a solution to select mispelled words, bring up the menu of suggestions and pick one, all via the keyboard.

A common typing standard is to correct spelling mistakes after a paragraph or two is typed.

However, gSpell is a small Mac OS X app for this purpose.

@Vortico I think ive looked at gSpell once before. It uses google spelling suggestions right? does it also have a keyboard only interface?

Spell Catcher has a set of keyboard shortcuts. I don’t use them, so I can’t say how useful they would be to you.
