What's the strangest reason you've heard for someone contacting emergency services?

Asked by ucme (50047points) December 4th, 2010

You know, 911 or 999 depending on where you live. A serious issue I know. A waste of resources & highly irresponsible. However you do find some funny if not pathetic examples from time to time. Frosty kidnapped! What was she thinking of? So, any outrageous funny or just plain dumb examples you can offer. I’m all ears.

I’ve got a good one. I was a volunteer firefighter/EMT and we got a call for someone having a seizure. We got there, and a couple of overweight stoners in their 20s were smoking pot and playing video games in their parents basement. One guy got so high he kind of freaked out and thought he was having a seizure. Long story short, his blood pressure was high so we took him to the ER. We just joked around with him and acted real friendly and goofy and he started laughing and calmed down. I kept chuckling and telling him to just relax. He was fine.

I work for an auto breakdown company and sometimes we get weirdos phoning up, either doing the heavy breathing thing or wanting to know what kind of underwear you’re wearing, but occasionally they come up with crazy stories. I took a call last year (actually I took about a dozen from this nutter in three days, and my colleagues all got him too) and the craziest thing he said was that he needed a tow-truck because he’d collided with a tiger. In the middle of Edinburgh.

My friend was a 911 operator she said they got calls all the time from people who gave someone money to get them drugs and they never got their drugs!

Oh we can’t forget the woman who called 911 because her coffee was too hot at McDonalds!

One of my close relatives is a cop and he tells me about the dumbass reasons that people call 911 for all the time. Most memorable for me was when a 400 pound uterus with legs called in because her plasma TV was broken.

Someone else once called because apparently, they were being pursued by zombies.

@TheOnlyNeffie I do love that one. 911 – McDonalds is out of Chicken McNuggets, send the police immediately!

God that’s a great insult.

@cockswain, what’s worse is that it is basically true. She was apparently massive, and had like… 6 kids.

There was the guy who called drunk because he needed a eide to the bar.

One man called because he said he was lonely and needed someone to talk to. Then there’s the woman who called because a man she had just serviced for a price, robbed her. And there’s the other where a crack addict called stating that he needed police assistance immediately because he had just been robbed of his crack. There really are too many.

This might be a good time to mention the movie Idiocracy. It’s coming true, people!

In a store parking lot I was looking left and right as I slowly backed out of the parking spot (large vans were parked on each side). Suddenly a car appeared and I slammed on the breaks. I got out of my car to see the damage which was a dirt streak/scratch line that was generated along half of the other car. There was not even a detectable dent. The driver of the other car didn’t have proof of insurance and seemed overly excited like she was on drugs. I tried to assure her that this is NOT an emergency but she called 911 anyway. HA! My insurance didn’t pay her a dime.

Some years after we moved to Winnipeg, in a drunken fit, my mom called the cops and the firemen to bitch about how nobody in this country spoke French. Seemed pretty normal at the time, what with living with her and all. XD

I saw on the news last year that a woman had called the police because her cat was “doing her head in” Goodness knows what the moggy was doing to piss the woman off so much that she would try and get him arrested.

My daughter was calling them when a guy would break up with her. That’s how emotional she is.
She was also carted off once in an ambulance with a hangover. She never paid them a dime.
