Is anyone familiar with the perscription Pristiq? If so, what do you think about it?

Asked by bellusfemina (821points) December 7th, 2010

My doctor just switched me from Lexapro to Pristiq, after I am really struggling with depression after miscarrying with my first pregnancy. I’m wondering if anyone has had experience being on Pristiq, and if so has your experience been good or bad? Has Pristiq helped your sex drive increase? That was one thing I did not like about Lexapro- was the decreased sex drive….

I am just apprehensive about switching medications, just because of an emotional event going on with me right now. My psychiatrist told me this will “get rid of my pain”.

Pristiq is desvenlafaxine. It’s a patent extender for venlafaxine, also known as effexor. Everyone is unique and you should likely go with what your psychiatrist says. However, in my personal experience, I have not seen any advantage over using this very new, very expensive medication. There is no evidence that it is better than other (much more affordable) anti-depressants.
