How cold is it in your "neck of the woods?"?

Asked by BoBo1946 (15325points) December 9th, 2010

It’s so cold here my neighbor’s dog was scraping off his testicles with an ice scraper this morning. It was 15f here last night. I just hate the winter time. Just not my thing.

How cold is it in your “neck of the woods?”

It is now a balmy 21 F ;)

BoBo1946's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille it’s depressing to me… i’ve always gotten the blues in the winter. I’m okay now, but stay this way, it get my “goat.”

marinelife's avatar

It has been in the 20s in the mornings raising to the low 30s. I am sick of having to bundle up to go out. The one bright spot is that it has been dry.

Summum's avatar

I love the cold and am more comfortable when it is colder. Anyway today we are going to be around 43 F which is much better. The last storm that came through here left it at -4 F.

ucme's avatar

Cold enough to the freeze the balls off a brass monkey. {{{sHiVeR}}} :¬(

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@BoBo1946 -Sorry to hear it gives you the blues.I love winter as it some of the best times for walks,IMO.It is peaceful, quiet and simply beautiful! Try to get out there :)

gailcalled's avatar

16˚ now, in the sun. Milo went out and then in in one fluid U-turn.

Coloma's avatar

A warm rain and holding at 48 degrees.
It has been in the low 60’s the last few days. Hit 64 on Tuesday and I was waaay over dressed and HOT!

10 days ago it was in the 20’s at night and hard freezes, low snow.

Tuesday was like a spring day, that’s California for you!

BoBo1946's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille my feet stay cold from Dec. to March. No matter what I do.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

I happen to love the winter, but have not been getting any of the cold, snowy weather that I enjoy. We’ve had a bit of a heat wave recently, and the projected high for the day is an uncharacteristic 59 degrees F. Bummer.

BoBo1946's avatar

Jeff and Lucille, lucky you…. I hate from day one until day last!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

We hit O F at my house last night. I think it’s a balmy 10 or so right now. I saw a few monkey balls on the side of the road driving in today.

BoBo1946's avatar

loll… Milo didn’t like it either Gail! Smart cat !

erichw1504's avatar

30 F, but feels like 21. That’s flippin’ cold around here! And now they’re saying a “winter storm” is due for us this weekend. A winter storm here is when we get 1 or 2 inches of snow and they close schools. I’m used to Upstate New York, where a winter storm was at least a foot of snow and they’d barely close any schools.

chyna's avatar

It’s finally up to 18 degrees now. Molly did what Milo did, went out, did a u-turn and came right back in.

sliceswiththings's avatar

23 F. Brrrr. As a street musician, this is bad news.

BoBo1946's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe guess i should be happy then… nope! Can’t.

BoBo1946's avatar

@sliceswiththings hey, if you were out there with your music… I would give you a BIG tip!

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@BoBo1946 -When I had a snowmobile,I would use toewarmers. They work very well and they are far less painful than lighting your feet on fire.
Here is some walkin’ music for ya!

—I had to add this to neutralize what I just did to you XD

sliceswiththings's avatar

@BoBo1946 Thanks! I wish more people were like you. Most people are too cold to pause for a second to take their wallets out, so I’ve been doing very poorly. They don’t seem to notice that it’s hard to play a musical instrument with frost-bitten fingers, or with gloves on :(

BoBo1946's avatar

@sliceswiththings hey, you need to head to New Orleans! It’s not bad there in the winter. Massachusett has got to be real cold now.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@BoBo1946 I’ve seen -35 degrees F once at my house. That’s frigging cold.

BoBo1946's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille I appreciate the flames… I’m still cold. I’ve two heaters going… one on each sides. Still cold.

Jude's avatar

She’s a nipply 22 F.

meiosis's avatar

Today it’s above freezing, at 2 C, for the first time since Sunday.

sliceswiththings's avatar

@BoBo1946 Leaving for San Francisco in a few weeks! :)

BoBo1946's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe i would have to find a new address.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I love nipply days.

BoBo1946's avatar

@sliceswiththings awww… it is nice in San Fran this time of the years. I spent two months there in 1989 working the earthquake. Loved every minute of it.

BoBo1946's avatar

After reading all these responses, I should just shut up. Didn’t know it was so warm out today!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@BoBo1946 If you look at my avatar the mountain in the center behind the low hill is Whiteface, There’s a weather station at the top of it. They recorded a wind chill reading of -187 degrees F. I’m not complaining too much.

Coloma's avatar

California can often boast the lowest and highest temps. in one day nationwide.

I live about 50–60 miles from where the Donner party perished near Truckee California.

Truckee is one of the coldest places on earth in the winter at an elevation of 5800 ft, tons of snow and extreme windchill factors.

@gailcalled Frankie did, as well.

BoBo1946's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe holy sh*t! That is off the charts! I’m getting warmer by the minute. loll

sleepdoc's avatar

It is getting what they consider cold for the area I am living in now. It was 40 degrees when I got in the car at 530 this morning (I know not cold by comparison, but I am just saying it like it is)

Cruiser's avatar

It was a cool 6 degrees when I started my car at 6 am!! We may hit a roasty toasty high of 14 today!!

Coloma's avatar

@Cruiser

You need a 7 ft. Cozy sac foam ‘beanbag’ sofa to hold you close!

It was 23 when I set out to ride my bike to work. Couldn’t really tell the difference from 35. I get hot, either way, although the tips of my fingers get cold. Time to change to mittens.

tinyfaery's avatar

It’s in the mid 70’s here today. It’s supposed to make it to 80 this weekend.

Jude's avatar

^^ (whimpers)

BoBo1946's avatar

@psychocandy just shut up! loll

tinyfaery's avatar

Aww. I never brag. ;)

partyparty's avatar

Well for the first time in quite a while the temperature is a warm 2C (35F) with lots of snow. I don’t like cold weather!! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Coloma's avatar

Just dreary over here now, no rain, just blase overcast.

One thing that’s really nice where I live is that I rarely get fog.
It can be completely foggy and cold in the valley and up here we have bright sun and warm temps.

Last week I played in the snow at about the 6000 ft. level and it was a gorgeous 50 degrees with 5.5 feet of perfect powder on the ground!

Heaven on earth!

Of course the temp drops about 20 degrees in the hour just before dusk. So you don’t want to be in the forest after dark. lol

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

Currently 27 here – it was so much worse in the morning.

MissAusten's avatar

As my friend’s dad used to say….

It’s colder than a witch’s titty! :P The high today was 30, and the low tonight will be a horrifying 16. At least the sun was out today and it was dry. It will be a bit warmer later in the week, but rainy.

BoBo1946's avatar

ummmm…. nice to know that I’m not the only miserable soul here! Do not like cold weather.

Mat74UK's avatar

It was -17.5c (convert that into old money if you will) here the other morning warmed up to a barmy 0°c right now.

Mat74UK's avatar

@BoBo1946 – I’m starting to hate winter too. I wish this snow and ice to disappear!

daytonamisticrip's avatar

Between 10 and 20 degrees in the morning and quickly getting colder, but I love it!

BoBo1946's avatar

@Mat74UK after reading your comment, I’m feeling better already! I should not complain….. -17.5c!!!!!!

BoBo1946's avatar

love it @daytonamisticrip !!!!! not me… I like warm stuff.

Coloma's avatar

Turning into an awesome afternoon in my neck o’ the woods now!

55 degrees, sunny with big waning storm clouds drifting over and have the whole house opened up for an airing!

daytonamisticrip's avatar

@BoBo1946 I like it when it’s warm too but I prefer cold. It just wakes me up and gives me a fresh burst of energy!

BoBo1946's avatar

@daytonamisticrip when i wake up, my only thought is to pull the cover higher!

philosopher's avatar

@BoBo1946
It has been in the twenties but windy and very cold.
Merry Christmas to you and everyone.

YARNLADY's avatar

I am so spoiled. I remember as a child having to walk to school when it was so cold my nose hairs froze. Now, when my grandson walks in and says it’s freezing out, I have to laugh. I just walked out to the gate wearing a t-shirt and no shoes to get the mail.

I live right down the hill from @Coloma and it’s generally much warmer at my house. We get no snow here, and it is rarely below 40 degrees.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I think it’s about 24F/-4C right now in the Big Frozen Apple.

Adagio's avatar

22°C / 72°F (blue, blue sky, a very light breeze and sunshine)

gailcalled's avatar

This is Québec, it has pretty harsh Winters, and although right now there isn’t much snow, it’s a promising chiller.

Nowhere near as bad as when I lived in Winnipeg though…Québec’s puny Winters make me laugh compared to the Manitoba cold.

Harold's avatar

Hot, humid, and 31 degrees C here in Sydney. Typical December weather.

BoBo1946's avatar

When i think things are bad, someone has it worse. That goes for more than the weather.

OpryLeigh's avatar

It’s managed to get up to 6C here today. Balmy compared to the below freezing conditions we have been getting.

Paradox's avatar

Only around 20 degrees F for highs with lows in the single digits. A foot of snow already in my backyard as well.

Coloma's avatar

Crazy California weather, soaring into the high 60’s, possibly 70 today!

tinyfaery's avatar

Okay, now it’s just hot. (84F)

meiosis's avatar

84F? Ugghh! Your poor thing.

BoBo1946's avatar

@meiosis my sentiment exactly….... wind chill here this morning is around 0 !!!!

Coloma's avatar

Rain forecast for tomorrow, but, yesterday was like a spring day, topped out around 67–68, light breeze and everything so green it is blinding. haha

I have lots of big oaks covered in thick emerald moss, it is so beautiful!
