On the occasion of your first ever date, did you borrow your Mums/Dads perfume/aftershave & what was the brand?

Asked by ucme (50047points) December 9th, 2010

Yeah, that feeling of apprehension mixed with excitement & anticipation. What Shall I wear? Do these match those? Should I smell purdy? I realise for some of you this may involve delving into the dark ages XD So long ago it’s no more than a distant blur, but do try & recall some of the hazy details. Ready, steady…& begin.

I remember it like yesterday and that was way back in the early 60s. (some of us old folks still have good memories).

It was Old Spice Aftershave that won my wife over. she loved it then and she loves it today. it has a clean smell and lasts forever.

I had my own cologne when I was a teenager and my own smell. I loved English Leather and London Lyme. I always wore one or the other. I used Sterling Silver once in a while too.

My first cologne I wore was given to me by a German exchange student who came to live with us when I was 14. It was called 4711 and was really nice smelling!!

i think i wore some of that awful patchouli oil…. I’m surprised he came back for more with me stinking like that.

I didn’t borrow my mother’s perfume, which was Jungle Gardenia, a very heavy scent. I never liked perfumes or colognes.

I still don’t wear any today.

I didn’t, but my family knew it was my first date ever and my dad was planning to make a really garlicky pasta dish for dinner. He additionally made a special version for me with no garlic. Isn’t he the best?
It paid off, that was also the night of my first kiss.

No one in my family wears cologne or perfume because the stuff gives my mum a headache. I didn’t smell like anything in particular on my first date (as far as I know.)

I had my own smelly’s back then, I think it would have either been Old spice or Brut 33 ( splash it all over ) one of the two….. She wasn’t impressed , I remember that.. Her brother had to point out that I smelled like their Dad :-/

I used my father’s “Moustache”, a mens cologne, don’t think it’s been around for 30 years or more.

Actually I did not @ucme ! My Dad wasn’t there in my teenage years. Not his fault or Mother’s fault. War victim…. landed on Normandy D Day and was never the same.

Wow. I just had the thought of Love’s Baby Soft. Whooooooooooo. That was my first date perfume. I rarely wear perfume now and am extremely picky when I do. Thank God, because that stuff gives me a migraine!

Good question, fun memory.

No. My mother had been giving me my own scents since I was a kid. That doesn’t mean they were the best choices though… the whiff of Jovan’s Deep Earthy Musk, Jean Nate or Love’s Baby Soft make me want to dry heave now.

No. I high school, I didn’t (and wasn’t allowed to) date. In college, we all hung out in a group and then paired off. So for my first real date as an adult, I smelled like a combo of Ivory soap and Paul Mitchell hair product.

@cak Thanks for that ringing endorsement :¬)
