AK-47, Dragunov- which to pick?

Asked by Neizvestnaya (22657points) December 12th, 2010

Should I look for something with all USA milled parts or take a gamble on a Romanian model? This one’s not my cup of tea but a gift so I’m asking you rifle buffs to weigh in.

Depends on what your purpose is here. Do you want a fun range toy or do you want a scoped, medium range rifle with decent accuracy?

An actual Dragunov will cost you an arm and a leg because only a few of them were imported, but you can get a Romanian PSL for decent prices.

Dealing with the AK, there really isn’t that much difference, other than cosmetics between the WASR-10 and the nicer, more expensive models. Century Arms has cleaned up their act recently, and as long as you get a newer WASR, you probably won’t have to deal with magazine wobble or canted sights (which were problematic on the older ones).

Ammo for both is relatively cheap. Especially for the PSL. You can buy 880 7.62×54R rounds for about $140.

Likewise, you can get 500 7.62×39 rounds for the AK for less than a hundred dollars.
