A change in the air - or is it me, dear fluther?

Asked by seazen (6123points) December 14th, 2010

After a couple of years here intensively, about 700–800 questions (newbies: when you see “Zen” plus something with a Picard av – it’s me) I finally took a break. I’ve been away for a couple of weeks, popping in now and then to answer a couple of PMs and Q’s.

But I can’t seem to think of anything to ask, and worse; don’t see any questions I feel like/can contribute to.

Any other vets feel like this – or is it just me (which could very well be). I do get to be a bit S.A.D in the winter…

Lurve you guys.

I’ve been like this for awhile, too. Just popping into legit discussions and ruining them with one-liners is enough to keep me here. :)

augustlan's avatar

It’s probably a combination of you and the site. Things do seem a little slow at the moment. Maybe because it’s the holiday season? Hope you enjoyed your break!

JilltheTooth's avatar

Ebb and flow, Zennie darlin’, ebb and flow. Autumn (or Spring for the upside down folk) has been a bit static-y and unformed, see what happens when you’re gone? I have faith that the balance will be restored.

chyna's avatar

Missed you Zen. I agree, it’s slow here right now.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I could start something interesting if you’d like. :)

There is definitely a change in the air and I’m not a vet and I see/feel it also. There is probably a myriad of reasons for the change which is not the first time Fluther has taken a different direction. Stick around and see which way things are going before making any decisions on Is this for me or not. Should I stay or should I go?
Actually, this slow time is giving me time to work on some other tasks.;-)
@seazen you have been missed.

SundayKittens's avatar

Definitely seems quieter!

I’m not feeling much lurve lately either. I’ve been kinda down so that may be part of it, but just don’t see much that compells me here lately – either for asking or answering.

JLeslie's avatar

I was just talking about you. Wondering where you had been. I sent you a question hopefully you will be interested in. The OP I am sure would love to hear your opinions and comments on the topic.

Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@seazen Have you checked in today?

mammal's avatar

let’s talk about why there are aren’t any wiki-leak diplomatic cables pertaining to Israel :p

Sueanne_Tremendous's avatar

I was most recently on a many month hiatus. Not intentional, really. Just got bored. Now, there are lots of newbies and some new Q’s and personalities. I figured I stop in and fuck with some minds.

wundayatta's avatar

I think it’s you. You can choose to be interested or not. I look at these questions, and there are times when I’m not that interested in them, but I answer anyway. I try to add a twist of my own to the answer, and with a sick mind like mine, that’s not too hard. Also, sometimes I will research questions—try to find an issue that interests me, and ask something about that. Again, it’s with my own twist—which usually has to do with finding a way to get people to related personally to the question. I’m not so much interested in answers as stories.

If you’re not interested in the place, it’s because you don’t want to be interested any more. So take a break. Do other things. Maybe the break will be permanent and maybe it won’t. I’ve been wondering what happened to you, so I’m glad you came back to say what you’re up to. You should feel honored. There are not a lot of people whose absence I would notice.

marinelife's avatar

It’s the usual ups and downs of Fluther, I think.

downtide's avatar

I’ve never been much for asking questions at all but I find even with answering them, that I’m not doing so many. I wonder if it’s the time of year; people are busy with other things to do than Fluthering.

seazen's avatar

To all the fluther babes – thanks.

To Daloon – I am honoured that you noticed.

To mammal – there were some wiki leaks pertaining to Israel – but the American and Arab ones were more interesting. Heads will roll. I think the only mistake he made was to release a few hundred thousand at the same time. Too many to fathom – and yesterday’s news before they were even read and thought about. Hell, even CNN and Fox are all about the missing boys, the kindergarden hijacker – wiki-what?

@marinelife You’re probably right – but

@augustlan I got a cryptic Pm – I won’t say from whom – that mentioned something about a mod change – and a few vets having left – all this in the span of a few weeks… truth to this?

@downtide I am really not a wonter person – and spend more nights in bed than in the summer – when I would fluther for hours on end.

Time will tell – but it’s nice to hear from you all in my thread…

YARNLADY's avatar

I spend far less time on here than I used to, and most of that is reading other people’s responses rather than making any of my own. There seem to be a whole lotta repeat questions, and I’m not that interested in answering the same thing twice or three times.

Bluefreedom's avatar

Let me take a look around, make an assessment, and then I’ll give you my official report, @seazen. Always good to hear from you also, my friend. Happy Holidays! =)

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Holiday time always feels like this for me. Working more to cover other people and also squirrel away fun $ for me. Running around making prepartions for incoming company, shopping, visiting. I look forward to when face-to-face is opportune and takes precedence over me lurking about online.

seazen's avatar

@Bluefreedom Thanks buddy. Happy Holidays.

@Neizvestnaya Nice to see you here. :-)

Blueroses's avatar

Well, snap out of it!
I get into a cycle of depression in the winter months; more personal than weather related, and spend more time looking to online interactions as I tire of people in the real world. If all the interesting flutherites drop off, I’m going to be pissed as hell!

seazen's avatar

I’ll never leave you – @Blueroses – what, you think I christen avatars and split? Wham bam thank you ma’am?

;-)

Blueroses's avatar

Exactly @seazen There’s a proverb where I come from about when you give somebody an identity you assume a lifelong responsibility for keeping them amused (or something like that)
That link is prohibited from playing in my planet country

augustlan's avatar

@seazen A few vets have left, some just on a break, some permanently perhaps, and some… well let’s just say that leaving was not their decision. ;)

At the moment, the mod team remains the same.

@JLeslie Hey, it’s Meta – which is Social but petaining to Fluther. So how you doin’?

Blueroses's avatar

Dammit, I’m late for spam and bonfires? I miss all the fun. Too distracted by all the sex talk threads popping up today.

JilltheTooth's avatar

@Blueroses : There were sex-talk threads? Curse my bad memory and short attention span!

JLeslie's avatar

@seazen Haha. Doin’ fine. I actually spent way too much time on fluther yesterday. Partly because you are back :) had some good discussions on your Q’s. Today I need to focus on some chores and errands.

seazen's avatar

I just posted a sex thread. Jump in – the water’s fine.

JLeslie's avatar

Seems you’re back?! In good spirits.

seazen's avatar

I am, thanks to you and some other friends from long ago. Whether you realized it, or not.

Paradox's avatar

@seazen I have quite a few questions believe me. I’m still grinding my teeth here as to whether I should ask some of them or not, or to put them in general or social. Maybe I could pm them to you and you could ask them.

JilltheTooth's avatar

I am having my first tipsy Fluther experience. Ask any questions! I will answer. Not intelligently, or probably even intelligably (did I spell that right?) but I will answer…

JLeslie's avatar

Oooh. It’s like Truth or Dare. Haven’t played that since college.

JilltheTooth's avatar

Oh, dear, what did I get myself into here? I’ll have another glass of wine.

Blueroses's avatar

@JilltheTooth Have you ever accepted cash or goods in return for sexual services?

JilltheTooth's avatar

@Blueroses: I said “tipsy”, not blind stupid indiscreet drunk. There isn’t enough wine in the house to get me to answer that on a site that my daughter is on!!! Too bad, huh. ;-)

Blueroses's avatar

ha. You passed your fluther breathalyzer. Quip on, my friend!

bob_'s avatar

@JilltheTooth Wait, but then why can’t you simply answer “no”?

* suspicious look *

JilltheTooth's avatar

@bob_ You should know by now that I never use one word when 187 will do. ;-P

anartist's avatar

As you change, so does Fluther. Andrew and Ben [and Tim] are drifting away too,
caught in Twitter’s net.
I will miss you and gradually all of you as this fades.
BTW, did you notice my last Hebrew request?
[I apologize for being such a pest]

janbb's avatar

@anartist Very poetic – will miss you too.

_zen_'s avatar

It must’ve been me.
