[NSFW] Does anyone else find the concept of sex dolls to be fascinating?

Asked by MissAnthrope (21511points) December 14th, 2010

I don’t know what it is, but I find the whole thing fascinating. Not in a judgmental way or anything, just that it’s extremely interesting to me. For example, I could spend ages looking at the Realdoll site, everything they offer, the different combinations, all the ways you can customize.. it’s amazing and really fascinating to me.

Does anyone else find it as interesting as I do? WHY is it so interesting? Have you ever used one or seen one in person? Do you know anyone who’s used one?

Interesting, yes. Creepy, yes. Would I ever buy one?... Only if I were filthy rich and had money to burn…. Do I know anyone who has one?.... Not that I know of, but I would imagine that’s the type of thing you might not broadcast.

Nah, be like humping Joan Rivers! Oh come on XD

Im most fascinated by a man I can stuff in a trunk when im done with him and not be arrested :) LOL j/k. They are neat…I used to play on their website before I had sims….I wonder though how many weirdos order dolls to look like people they know…

Rarebear's avatar

Boy. Not even a little bit.

MissAnthrope's avatar

I agree.. it’s a bit creepy. But for me, all dolls are inherently creepy, at least to some degree. It would seem that creepiness increases in direct proportion to how close to life size the doll is.

If I was a guy, I think I might be curious. But then, it’s creepy, so I don’t know.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I was going to say not at all, but after thinking about for a few I’ll admit I’m kind of intrigued by the idea. I don’t know why.

I find this one fascinating….lol
most likely a one way ticket to hell lol

Like….body 10 and face 14 is exactly me….now im creeped out wondering….I did date a very wealthy man at one point who stalked me for a while…..did he maybe get a doll of me?

MissAnthrope's avatar

@coffeenut – That’s just.. wrong. Ha.

@deliasdancemom – OooooOOoo.. maybe.

MissAnthrope's avatar

The male dolls are new since the last time I checked that site out.. I find it kind of funny that the first two faces look like Sigfreid and Roy.

Male Realdoll on offer at a rummage sale.. also hilarious.

deliasdancemom's avatar

Lmao sigfreid and roy…..oooh before or after tiger incident? Cuz after I think we need some better molds!

MissAnthrope's avatar

Check out Michael and Nick. Like, 80’s S&R? Tell me I’m wrong. :P

deliasdancemom's avatar

@MissAnthrope aaahh gahd! Wait a sec….who orders the” limp flacid” penis….uh am I misunderstanding the point of a sex doll?

HearTheSilence's avatar

They showed a guy on the TV show Taboo that only had relationships with his dolls, he didn’t like human women. I think when they’re unable or have no desire to be with a real human, it just screams necrophilia to me. They’re interesting, but I don’t think I could ever get one. It’s just not the same if a doll can’t pull your hair while fucking you from behind…. They’re more for dominating guys I think.

deliasdancemom's avatar

@HearTheSilence thank goodness real dolls exist for men like this….so they can stay cloaked in shadow stinking of semen and shame where they belong…

ucme's avatar

Ladies, here’s a horny little devil just waiting to sink his teeth into you….woof woof! :¬)

HearTheSilence's avatar

@deliasdancemom I can’t agree more with you.

As for me personally, I’ll stick to my sex toys (dildos and vibrators), I don’t need a face and a body to go along with them.

MissAnthrope's avatar

I am more apt to feel sorry for someone who can’t have human relationship than anything else. I find that sad, really. Also, they’re not hurting anyone else but themselves, so what gets them off is really none of my concern. I guess I’m most interested in the whys of guys being into these dolls, both generically as a masturbation device and those used as a pseudo-companion.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time thinking about ‘what if I had a penis?’ I know for sure that I’d own a Fleshlight, but, you know, that’d be enough, I think. However, I guess I can see the allure of a moderately realistic life-size form to hump.

Honestly, though, I don’t understand why there is such a stigma to owning a sex doll. To me, it’s not that much different from owning dildos, vibrators, or other sex toys. I agree that the guys who give up relationships with real women are not living healthy lives as far as society dictates… but.. my philosophy is that if they’re happy and not hurting anybody, they should follow their bliss.

HearTheSilence's avatar

oh yeah, I agree @MissAnthrope to each their own, but the only reason I see full size dolls as a bit more creepy than a fleshlight is the fact that for me it walks the fine line of being like necrophilia. If they can find just as much pleasure from sex toys, why does it have to have a face and body to go along with it? But that’s just my take on it…

Its the eyes…..they don’t blink…..

The Real Doll has fascinated me for years. If I could then I’d have a stable of customized dolls, an online website and live actors and actresses to perform in various skits.

MissAnthrope's avatar

@Neizvestnaya – Ha! That’s a pretty cool idea. Lots of fun could be had.

For anyone who’s curious, here’s a Nerve.com article by a guy who tried one of these dolls out. It’s mainly entertaining and not especially informative, though.

Berserker's avatar

Haha wow they look like beautiful corpses. I guess that’s pretty cool, at least, way better than those ridiculous blow up dolls.
But seriously, people have sex with stuff like that?

Blueroses's avatar

What happens when the person dies? Can you really imagine buying a used sex doll at an estate sale auction? Or God, even worse, having one willed to you?

Would destroying it feel like murder?

I did read about the Real Doll relationships after seeing that Taboo segment. Some men buy them only to dress them and pose them—wouldn’t dream of having sex with them.

On the other side, there’s that whole fetish of “Living dolls” where a real woman plays doll-like or even dead for her partner’s sexual pleasure. I find that creepier than the actual doll.

@coffeenut That link is priceless and going out to every pervert I know. I know several

ratboy's avatar

If you’re curious about what it feels like to fuck something cold and inert, just ask anyone who’s been married for a while.

Blueroses's avatar

Here’s the flipside dollification
What’s odd to me is that no matter how offputting or repulsive/confusing a fetish is, once you start reading more about the participants and activities it takes on an aspect of intrigue if not understanding.
or is that just me? It could be just me. Forget I said anything.

MissAnthrope's avatar

No, I know what you mean. A fetish can seem really off-putting at first, but I’m always fascinated at the psychology and individuals behind it.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I remember reading an article in Marie Claire magazine a few years ago about people who spend their lives with dolls like these. They spoke about the dolls as if they were real and some even married them. I suppose I am fascinated by this but more with the mentality of the people that spend their lives with them than the actual dolls themselves. I have to admit to finding it quite creepy.

Jude's avatar

Creepy and sad (that guys choose to use them).

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Jude What’s our option? Spend countless years trying to figure out women?:)

Jude's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Find a real woman. :)

Although it might be $5 off on shipping, it looks like it says $500 off on shipping. :-0

mattbrowne's avatar

No. I’ll wait for fully-equipped androids who pass the Turing test and know how to flirt.

Porifera's avatar

It’s like any other sex toy.
Amazing craftmanship.
They seem very practical. If Iwere a guy who is a bit shy and doesn’t have it easy with the ladies, I’d probaly get one. It’s easier and safer than going to a bar a pick up a stranger. Some people do not need the emotional connection and just want sex for the sake of sex. So a doll would be convenient. But after you are done, where do you store it? It’s like keeping a corpse in your closet, a bit creepy, but then again having a dildo is like having a man’s mutilated part too.
Now, the mentality of those who talk to them and marry them is twisted—to say the least—but who is to say. This society is so alienating that each individual copes in the way they can.
