Is anyone else afraid of ferris wheels?

Asked by Taciturnu (6045points) December 18th, 2010

I have such a fear of heights, and it gets in the way of having fun on something high, exposed to the air and rocking. My friends and family think I’m strange.

I’m not afraid of ferris wheels, but I’m afraid of heights. I don’t like roller coasters because of my fear of heights.

@chyna Funny, I can do roller coasters. I beat my cousin up today on the ferris wheel, but I think her hysterical laughter eased her pain.

Yep! I get carsick on everything. I can’t even face backward on the escalator, so forget about Ferris Wheels.

@sliceswiththings lol- I don’t think I’ve ever faced backwards on an escalator… Unless you mean going down? (I can’t do open stairs.)

I was thirteen the last time I rode a ferris wheel. Never again. Never.

I’m not afraid of Ferris Wheels, but I’d be lying if I said they didn’t freak me out a bit.

Not so much the heights- I don’t have a problem with heights, but with the janky, shoddy construction. Something thrown together by a bunch of one-armed drunken carnies in 25 minutes can’t possibly be that safe.

I’m not afraid of Ferris Wheels but riding a double Ferris Wheel at our state fair years ago was kind of freaky.

I am not afraid of Ferris Wheels.
But I worry about the bozos that put them together. Who are they they?
How do you know they tightened all the screws and stuff?
When I was in the service, I cleaned my own weapon.
I don’t think I would have been comfortable if somebody else was doing it for me.
Same thing.

They are a bit frightening, but I still enjoy them as long as the person beside me doesn’t rock us too much.

I am afraid of any ride that spins us round very quickly. Makes me want to vomit anymore. It sucks. :/

I ride the swinging car every time. And it scares the crap out of me every time.

mrlaconic's avatar

Not afraid of heights or ferris wheels, but I don’t like the swinging car ones. As long as the car stays still I’m good.

Most of the women in my family are afraid of ferris wheels and just about any ride that involves height like that.

Ferris wheels scare me but I’ll go on them. Roller coasters, however: Never.

I’m not afraid of them, but I hate being stuck on Alfred Wheels for longer than 20 minutes.

Hell yeah! I f**king hate Ferris wheels. I can always imagine the actual “wheel” breaking off, and rolling for a bit, then falling over and killin’ me. I don’t ride them anymore…but I will ride anything else.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

i’m not terribly afraid per se, but I’m uneasy. My dad was always the sort to rock us a little bit too far when I was a kid, and it always made me anxious. That anxiety carried over into adulthood for me. I always want to ride, anyhow.

Deja_vu's avatar

Only if the farris wheel is really old and rusty. Otherwise I love them.

Berserker's avatar

Not a fan of rides. I love heights, but not when so little control over them is given to me. When I go to an amusement park, I’d rather just walk around eating giant pretzels and checking out hot guys, or playing in the arcades if they got em.

@Symbeline grab a pretzel and join me here. :D

Berserker's avatar

@jonsblond Haha that’s awesome, I’m there, dude. :)

ratboy's avatar

Why the hell would anyone fear ferris wheels?

Berserker's avatar

Yeah man, especially not when descendants of the Shinobi are pointing cannons at you and going Fire at that industrial structure!

downtide's avatar

I’m afraid of heights under certain circumstances. Ferris wheels don’t bother me if they’re the modern sort with enclosed cabins. But you could not pay me enough to get me on a rollercoaster.

Supacase's avatar

I can handle any roller coaster or any other carnival ride, but I will not get on a ferris wheel. I have several times, but it has been many years since anyone has been able to talk me into it.

Taciturnu's avatar

@Supacase I’m glad I’m not alone! :)
