So what have you bought your pet this Christmas?

Asked by partyparty (9162points) December 20th, 2010

I think we all like to spoil our pets, particularly when Christmas comes around.
Have you bought them anything. What is it?
Do you wrap and put the gifts under the tree?

As for my dogs, the minute I put their chews, bones etc under the tree, they continually sniff around, try to paw their gifts and generally stay around the area. It’s hilarious to watch.

I’ve been petless the last few years. We buy bones and chew toys for the other dogs in the family.

I bought my cat some new fuzzy mice (although she still has about 12 from last year), some Greenies treats and some wet food. I got our hammy a crunchy seed treat that is shaped like a Quiche Lorraine.

I haven’t gotten them yet, but I am going to get them each an AKC toy. They are very realistic and well-made, and they last a long time.

A bunch of stuff that it will take him a few days to destroy love to pieces that I will spend the next week vaccuuming up.

Rudy the Reindeer with credit going to @JilltheTooth for sending me the link. The shipping was more than the toy, but that’s okay. A penguin with no face that is kind of creepy. Some of his stuffing is bunched up in “that spot” so I am calling him Mr. Happy. A couple of rawhides, and some snacks and two busy bones. But that’s all.

partyparty's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe I am sure it is most appreciated
@diavolobella Wow the quiche lorraine looks fabulous
@marinelife They really do look lifelike don’t they? I bought my dogs two realistic looking toy lhasa apsos (same breed as my dogs) from the USA last year. One dog just had a sniff at the rear end of the dog then walked off. The other dog just wagged her tail at it, then sat next to it. It was so very sweet to watch her.
@JilltheTooth Yes, we always have to have the hoover handy when they have finished playing destroying the toys don’t we?

diavolobella's avatar

@partyparty Thanks. My Hammy (Spartacus) gets the Quiche Lorraine every year. I can never resist it. So far no complaints have been voiced, so I figure he’s okay with the repetition.

Gremily and Bill will get new catnip, catnip bubbles,a 6 pack of mice and new bathrobes.
Gracie will get some bones,a squeaky hotdog, new baseball bat and a sled.

@lucillelucillelucille OMG! I totally forgot my beta, Linguini. And he’s looking at me right now. I guess I’m heading back to the pet store tonight. Maybe he’ll get a moss ball.

chyna's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille Perhaps a little mermaid for the fish?

@diavolobella -Moss ball?—Must be kinda old,huh? XD
@chyna -Not a bad idea :)

partyparty's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille Quite a household of pets. I am sure they are well catered for. How about a deep sea diver for the fish, or perhaps a castle ruin so they can swim through it :))
@diavolobella Get to that pet shop immediately LOLL
@noelleptc And a toy?
Does @anyone put the gifts under the tree?

Supacase's avatar

Our cat is getting a new play/hide cube and some kitty treats. She is on a special diet, so they will definitely be a treat!

The dog is getting a coat, some bones and maybe a toy if I can find one she won’t destroy.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@partyparty -My tree is 2’ tall and is on a hutch.I could trust the dog not to rip open gifts but the 2 cats are not to be trusted.XD
I still want to know what a moss ball is!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@chyna A penguin with no face and an erection?
I want to know what a moss ball is too.

partyparty's avatar

Milo here: I have bought Gail a new apron and rubber gloves. That seems more-than-generous.

partyparty's avatar

@gailcalled To Milo: How about a box of chocolates or a bottle champagne for all the good things you have had throughougt the year. Tis the season of goodwill remember!

Cruiser's avatar

The rabbit will get that new surround sound system he has been hammering for, the Turtle is up for a new Marshal ½ Stack if she doesn’t mess up over the next 5 days…I think she is golden there as she is hibernating and probably won’t get herself in much trouble.

gailcalled's avatar

@partyparty: MIlo here: Give me a break, please. Maybe a mini-tootsie roll if she’s really good this week.

ucme's avatar

Haven’t gotten her prezzie yet. Going to cinema tomorrow with the kids though, pet shop nearby. Will probably get her some chewie treats & some toy for her to gnaw her way through. The she in question is our dog Penny by the way.

IchtheosaurusRex's avatar

A big chunk of liverwurst. Both the dogs are crazy about it.

TrkReznor's avatar

I bought my hedgehog a salt lick, a new and more expensive brand of food, and a new wooden house.

chyna's avatar

@TrkReznor You have a live hedgehog? How cool!

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

I don’t buy my pets gifts.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@partyparty I think I might need to purchase one of those leprechaun testicles for my tank!
Thank you for the suggestion! :)

diavolobella's avatar

@lucillelucillelucille Fish like to gently nibble on those things. ;)

partyparty's avatar

@Cruiser I am sure your pets will be forever grateful for the enhanced sounds you they will be provided with this Christmas :))
@ucme Not many days left now. Just remember she may just bite your ankles if she hasn’t got a present on Christmas morning :)
@TrkReznor Aw a hedgehog how lovely :)
@Simone_De_Beauvoir Get to the pet shop immediately LOLL
@lucillelucillelucille perfect description LOL

Scooby's avatar

There are two stockings hanging up from the mantle piece above my fire,,,, I’m adding stuff almost everyday :-/
treats, toys even a small radio controlled mouse.. Lol… my friends bring the cats goodies too when they visit…..

JilltheTooth's avatar

I have to keep Zuppy’s stuff in the car. How pathetic is that?

JilltheTooth's avatar

Cuz he finds stuff. Then he barks and whines if he can’t get at it, even a closed door isn’t good enough. It’s easier to leave stuff in the car than put it in the attic. stupid puppy

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@JilltheTooth That just show he’s a smart puppy.

Likeradar's avatar

My little lady is getting a sweet potato and extra petting time… her favorite things. :)

ucme's avatar

@partyparty Oh she’ll get, don’t you fret XD I wuv her see!

Doppelganger19's avatar

A Zhu Zhu animated toy hamster.

Kitties get presents from my best friends, my sister, my mother, and my dad. I think they get more than I do. I’ll buy them stuff throughout the year but it’s just more for me to clean up. I’m so glad they can find their baskets to take things out, but never manage to put them back. I can’t tell you how many times I wake up with toy mice under my blankets!! This year, so far, they’ve gotten Santa hats, beards, and scarves from dad.

tinyfaery's avatar

Nothing yet. I plan on getting them a new Pet Fountain and a new cat tree.

TrkReznor's avatar

@chyna Ya, his name is Sonic of course. I had two others, Amy and Shadow but they died not to long ago. Sonic has been alive for quite a while.

Coloma's avatar

I have more cat toys than a pet store right now. Sooo, the little trouble makers are not getting anything new.

They did just get some ‘Bliss out’ catnip spray a few weeks ago.
My daughter bought Marwyn the goose a new jingle bell collar and she is painting his psychedelic portrait too for my bedroom! ;-)

Neizvestnaya's avatar

They each get new squeak plush toys, the pom gets the mobile groomer to come and if there’s extra $ then each will get a bark collar.

daytonamisticrip's avatar

My cats might be getting a scratching post pole thing. It’s kind of to big to wrap up so no I’m not wrapping it. Also they’re getting some home grown cat nip from my grandma.
My dog is going to get a spa day. She’s going to be shampooed, conditioned, fur trimming, pedicure, and a good grooming.

downtide's avatar

Not bought anything yet but I’m going to buy her a “squirrel”, which is basically a tennis ball covered in brown fur, with a matching furry tail attached to it. They last no more than 20 minutes but she loves them.

@daytonamisticrip a “spa day” would be something my dog would absolutely hate.

Kardamom's avatar

A crinkly cat nip mouse for my Kitty. That’s what he asked for. He likes to sit on it like he’s hatching an egg. Couldn’t wait for Xmas to give it to him. He smelled it and found it.
