Any chance your dog ate some holiday leftovers?

Are you feeding him cheap—it could be expensive too—dog food (which is mostly beans)? That could be the source of the problem.

We had the same problem with our border collie. this was back in his younger years. he left a vapor trail everywhere he went. at the time, we were feeding him Sams Club dry dog food. i reached over, one day, grabbed the dogfood bag and read the ingredients. corn!! corn, being the first ingredient, was the culprit. dogs normally cannot tolerate corn.

We switched his food to canned and dry Pedigree and the gas has improved(or the lack of it).

I suspect someone is blaming the poor dog. I mean did the dog have a second helping of brussel sprouts with Christmas dinner? Ask a likely suspect to take the dog for a walk and if the air clears you will have your answer.

Some breeds are more prone to gas. So if it has always passed gas, it may not change. Otherwise, it is most likely the food it is eating like many people have already said. Look for a dog food that doesn’t have corn, wheat or soy. Many dogs have some sort of problem with these three ingredients. Good quality dog foods all avoid these three ingredients since it has been known for some time that many dogs have issues with these ingredients.

Look for a dog food that has low carbs, high protein, no added sugar or unnatural preservatives. It should also not have any animal by-products listed in the ingredients. Some dogs have problems with beef, so lamb or chicken are better bets.

If you are switching dog foods, do so gradually, by mixing in a little more of the new food everyday until you are only feeding the new food. Otherwise, the dog might get diarrhea or gas.

Good quality dog food is best found in a feed store. The grocery store usually only carries low quality brands that have profit, not good dog nutrition, as their number one objective.

And, just like someone mentioned previously, table scraps will give most dogs gas. Especially, high fat foods. Also there are many foods that can get a dog very sick, or even kill it. Things like chocolate, raisins, grapes, xylitol, etc.

Hope you can solve your dog’s problem.
