37. That is the most statistically likely number for someone to choose “randomly” between 1 and 100.

ezraglenn (3499)

ezraglenn: really? do you know why?

Bri_L: are you going to tell us why you asked this? cause now im curious…

Allie (17506)

three.

lovelyy (1134)

@Allie, there was a study done about it, which of course I cannot find right now. I heard about it from a math teacher at school. Basically, people gravitate towards it because it seems EXTRA random. It is odd, and prime, as are both of its digits, and numbers with sevens in them appeal to the subconscious because it is considered a lucky number in many cultures, especially due to gambling etc.

ezraglenn (3499)

ezraglenn: hmmm… interesting.. thanks.

okay this was fun, now i lost intrest.

hairypalm (889)

yes. I was curious if people would try and guess what I was thinking. Or if they would try and make a guess that would show what they were about (famous numbers, numbers with scientific meaning etc.)

Bri_L (12196)

Incidentally the number was 42 which I am sure everyone knows a popular story behind.

Bri_L (12196)

Dang i stoped at 40. :(

hairypalm (889)

LunaFemme (1090)

@ Bri L—Life, the Universe, Everything??

Kay (1608)

Actually Bri L, as I was reading my way down I was going to guess 42. Too bad you gave it away before i had a chance to answer.

Perchik (4982)

@Bri_L:

“yes. I was curious if people would try and guess what I was thinking. Or if they would try and make a guess that would show what they were about (famous numbers, numbers with scientific meaning etc.)”

“Incidentally the number was 42 which I am sure everyone knows a popular story behind.”

Okay, so what does your number say about you (& I know the film reference btw, but what besides that)?

p.s. I missed out on the fun, so I’ll offer what would have been my number: “googleplex”

sndfreQ (11729)

@ LunaFemme- Heck yeah!!
@ Kay – It may be in there to! I know it was mentioned in the first book The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy
@Perchik – I think I speak on behalf of the Fluther collective when I say LIAR!!!!! Just kidding! I figured someone had to pick it.
@ sndfreQ- I choose my number because it combines cold numbers and humor. I felt it represented my personality in that I can work both sides of the equation sometimes. AND, your number was actually my third choice behind avagadros number 6.02214199×10(to the 23rd)

Bri_L (12196)
