What am I missing out on by buying the smaller F-150 motor?

Asked by mrrich724 (8547points) December 26th, 2010

I just bought a 2010 F150, 4.6 3V V-8. My father-in-law has the 5.4 (or something).

Just curious, what can he do that I can’t. My truck hauls ass, if I punch it I’ll peel out >:)

At the end of the day, I don’t really care all that much b/c I love the truck, and mostly the only thing I’d be towing is my Sportster in the bed of the truck. So I’m really just curious…

Did you say, squealing tires? a citation for that offense is around $1,200.00 dollars.

You ( if not always squealing tires) will get better gas mileage.
But will not be able to haul as big a trailer or load in your bed.

@john65pennington G.A.! But jeez, $1200 is a little excessive for the crime committed! I’ve only done it once, the day I bought it.

@Tropical_Willie I was thinking better gas mileage . . . I don’t have much to tow either. I just like the ride, and with the super cab, I can take as many people as in a car. But when I need to do things like haul the bike, or pick up a piece of furniture, I don’t have to “call the friend.”

So I’m golden :)

Ok, Mrrich, you are allowed to resume with a warning, this time. seriously, squealing the tires is considered reckless driving in all the states. and, don’t forget your seatbelt. we want you back on Fluther for a long while.

I guess here in the middle of the USA squeeling tires is not viewed as such a crime. My F-150 will get scratch at 60 miles an hour when I goose it to pass someone. I love it!
You have a wonderful truck and you should enjoy it, do not listen to everyone telling you to get a bigger one.
(Jeeze you all, ribbing on about it being illegal and asking that he wear his seatbelt…what are ya his mom or just the safety monitor for the day?)

@MissPoovey Thanks for sticking up for me, but it’s OK, I love my truck :)

I didn’t take their answers defensively anyway. @john65pennington is a police officer so he’s doing his duty, and the answer I got from @Tropical_Willie is along the lines of what I was looking for.

Thanks anyway! :) I do kinda agree with you though, I don’t see the harm in burning a little rubber some times… as long as no one is at risk.

Not much really. He can boast over 300 hp you can’t. Yours can haul more weight than the Chevy Silverado 6.0 8 cylinder and yours will burn more fuel in the process. Overall yours should kick all forms of ass…put a Harley Decal in the back window and you have the Alpha Dog!
