(Army) What do I do if I fall on orders to PCS overseas in May but I ETS in Nov?

Asked by Moegitto (2310points) December 26th, 2010

Asking my fellow army soldiers. I fell on orders to go overseas to Germany. My ASK says I should be reporting on May 10 2011. I ETS Nov 29th 2011. I know of the DEC statement, but my NCO keeps saying things that make no sense. Not trying to question a E7, he say’s I just go to the levi briefing and let them know I’m ETS’ing and they should delete my orders. At first he was saying do nothing at all. From what I know, If you don’t attempt to go, they hit you with a automatic DEC statement, which your chain of command has to sign, and this would cause problems, so doing nothing is obviously wrong. And I know that if you go to the levi briefing, they cut you orders, so I don’t think that’s the right way to do it too. I need help, because I’m on rear-d, and my brigade is deployed, so I can’t talk to my brigade Career Advisor.

PS: Extra info-considered mid career soldier, already re-enlisted once before. I know about the regs on that, but the problem is do I go in to the in and out processing building to try and get help? Or do I try to wait till my unit gets back to try and seek the career advisor really fast because theres only 2 months from march to may.

I had buddy in Army and he would always say “Ask the Red Cross”.
Don’t know why.

Unless the Army has an involuntary extension…. Are you accompanied? Probaly your career advisor is your best route. Until that happens, you say how high… on the way up.

Can you not go see your Personnel Specialist in the HQ Company?

Per my husband, call your branch manager and tell them that you are not planning to re-enlist and therefore only have a 6 month retainability. He said it’s very unlikely that they would send you to Germany without being able to keep you there for 2 years.

I emailed branch, how long do I wait till I call them? Want to look impatient, but now till may is getting smaller…

@Moegitto (Per my husband again)... With a lot of people being on vacation right now, you might want to wait to call until after the 1st (just in case your branch manager is on vacation right now).
