What have been your high points and low points of this year?

That’s easy, visiting my son in Sweden and repairing 15 years of being estranged.

The highlight was getting a fat raise and being given a private office. Having that space of my own has made me enjoy work a lot more and given me sanctuary from a person in my office who is extremely annoying. I hadn’t realized how much being near her was affecting my enthusiasm for my job until I got away from her.

The low point was my elderly Mom having to have a hip replacement. It ended up going well, but it was stressful for her and worrisome for us.

My low light this year is…...
Jeez I just realized I don’t recall anything from this year!

My daughter doing so well in second grade (I’m endlessly proud of her).

My wife doing well at her new job and getting back to her old self.

Making some real progress in getting out of debt (the result of a three year layoff that ended a year ago).

A good year overall. Much better than than the past four.

Highlight has been knowing Lucille will get her dream operation come true . Lowlights are all the stresses that came with the territory to buying my company. A freaking Rollercoaster

Not a lot of highlights, but I had a ton of lowlights.

In an effort to stay positive for the upcoming year, I’ll say it was really fun and an excellent learning experience being a campaign manager.

Meeting and interviewing Ronnie Spector this past June when she performed at a benefit in Woodstock.

My first year back in California, finding out over again why I love my state.

Also, I had a fling in the first part of the year that was not only unexpected but also unbelievably hot while it lasted. That felt like a gift from the universe, quite honestly.

Triptykon show from last October. I didn’t go to a lot of shows this year, but damn, this has to be my personal favorite so far.

Meeting some truly incredible individuals in person that I originally met online (from Answerbag and Fluther) and getting to spend quite a bit of time with each of them. Not to sound all dramatic and cheesy, but it was life changing and I cherish these friendships tremendously. I feel so lucky!

My dad, once again, having a successful surgery to change the batteries for Deep Brain Stimulation to help with his Parkinson’s.

Helping a friend start a business and already being relatively successful (especially in this economy) within the first two months.

Having the lady at Brow Bar do a really nice job on my eyebrows.

Lows – Being deceived in my perceptions of two people whom I thought were close friends who dropped me summarily.

Highs – Getting to know my grandson Jake better and living closer to my son and daughter-in-law.

Giving birth to my baby boy Parker He is just so amazing, and has been such a joy to have and get to know.
Another high point would be working on my marriage and having it pull through when I feared it wouldn’t.
Lows:Umm, that’s really personal! lol

Highs: Getting (and keeping!) my full-time job at Fluther, doing what I love. My kids’ successes and milestones. Remaining happily married.

Lows: This all happened within a period of two weeks, just in the last month… My husband’s ex-wife (the mother of his grown children) died unexpectedly, a week after being diagnosed with throat cancer. In addition to her grown children, she left behind a 12 year old son. Devastating. My step-father’s (my only real dad) father died just weeks after being diagnosed with brain cancer. My step-father himself was diagnosed with skin cancer. My husband was laid off, and my job was iffy for a while there. Truly an awful time. We felt like we’d been hit by a train.

Time and love have done a lot to ease the pain of the lows, thank goodness. <3

In January 2010, after being together for a few years, my boyfriend told me he loves me. I never really doubted it but hearing it for the first time was the best feeling in the world especially after waiting for so long. Also, our trip to America where we saw Cher in Vegas was a major highlight.

Lows: My Dad has been incredibly ill for most of the year, and has suddenly become someone who would happily leave this life (which is so out of character for him, and very hard to bear).

Highs: Being where I am right now, and with the person I am with. Also, moving back to the North of England – I’m home again. Ooh, and getting my book published and launched in April this year was pretty amazing. And of course, this is the year I discovered Fluther :-)

OpryLeigh's avatar

@harple What’s the book called/about, if you don’t mind me asking?

harple's avatar

@Leanne1986 It’s called “The Theory Handbook – a practical approach to reading music” and it’s aimed at adult beginners of the harp :-) I can pm you the website if you want to find out anymore!

Seems like 2010 has been quite the year! Lots of amazing things happening around the globe.
I’m with @AmWiser – happy being alive :-) Have to say though, seeing L Cohen in concert was one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had this year. He was sublime.
@janbb sorry. I hope 2011 bring some good eggs into your life
@augustlan That’s awful, sorry to hear that
@harple Congrats on the publication of your book :-) Sorry to hear about your Dad. I cannot imagine how difficult that is

janbb's avatar

@stardust A friend saw Leonard Cohen in concert and just loved him too.

casheroo's avatar

@augustlan oh I’m so sorry :(

@Cruiser haha, yes, very proud. and that was right before he decided to have a snack upside down lol

OpryLeigh's avatar

@harple I’d like that :)

Highlights -
My brother getting married. She’s amazing.
Getting to know a friend that I met last year really well. He’s awesome and I can’t wait to see him again.
My best friend having her first boyfriend. He’s amazing and I can’t believe she’s 15 already! But then again, I’m 14 already!

Lowlights -
Starting high school was kind of exciting but kind of depressing.
Other than that, nothing that bad comes to mind, which makes me really glad.
