Does anyone have any idea how to get this cold out of my chest?

Seriously, I can’t take it anymore. I feel like death and my lungs are on the verge of collapsing. The muscles in my back are so sore from coughing that I can barely stand. I may have to go get some kids Mucinex cause I can’t swallow big pills.
I have spent the better part of 2 days with a heating pad stuck to my back and Vick’s rubbed over every part of me.
Someone please help?

My favorite cough medicine is prescription Tussionex. It feels like it coats the chest cavity and stops the coughing for around 10–12 hours. I would call your doctor’s office and ask for a prescription for it, and try it.

Sounds like you need a trip to the doctor to rule out pneumonia. If it’s something bacterial and not viral a grand dose of antibiotics might do the trick. The weaker you get, the worse it will probably get. Sorry, just a bit concerned… Feel better, soon!
Liz..yah. It could be the onset of pneumonia. Are you coughing up green crap? Are you coughing up anything at all? Definitely get some sort of expectorant/decongestant. I’d get it for you if I could. What does K say?
You really need to see a doctor to make sure it is just a cold.
Water and a really hot shower will steam up your bathroom! The steam helps to break it up!

Definitely try the Mucinex, ummm hot tea with a dollop of whiskey splashed with honey and lemon also works for me sometimes.
And take off the thong. It binds stuff up and makes you feel sicker than you really are.

You have part of your personal doctoring correct.
I have had bronchitis, since i was a child. my mother would always rub Vicks Vaporub on my chest and cover my chest with a warm towel, pinned to my pjs. this combination helped to open my bronchial tubes and for me to spit out the crude from lungs.
Its worked for me for years. good luck. jp
Hey, I started out with pneumonia on Thanksgiving. I took Levaquin for the pneumonia until I developed hives. I’ve been coughing ever since. Every single day, all day long, but some days are worse than others.
I have been to multiple doctors, and have multiple kinds of codine cough syrup, two kinds of inhalers, and a big box full of over the counter and none of those have worked, unless you count overdosing on codeine cough syrup, which is effective, but habit forming, and not a smart idea.
At this point, I’m using herbs that seem to help. At least I notice an improvement since I started taking them, so that works for me. I also noticed that when I ate a lot of junk over Christmas it got a lot worse. I have noticed a reduction in coughing when I do accupressure. IM me if you’re interested in that.
Update. She’s refusing to go to the vet. She said her husband, Kenny, is standing by with a 12 gauge to put her down himself, if necessary. :(
