In Gmail, my mom's missing all the buttons that do stuff with the text. I've tried everything I can think of, and it hasn't helped. Help!

She’s missing all the text buttons – bold, italic, underline, emoticons, link, numbering, bulleting, everything! She’s using IE8. Any ideas?

In composing an e-mail, mine has a little button that says “plain formatting.” When you click it, you lose the buttons. In its place, it has a button that says “rich formatting.” If you click it, the buttons return. Beyond that, I really wouldn’t know.

@Taciturnu She doesn’t have any link that says “rich formatting”. That was my guess, too.

:/ Sorry. I’m sure you already have, but did you try reloading?

That’s all I got.

@Taciturnu This has been going on for weeks, if not months, so I don’t think that would work, being that we turn off the computer every evening.

EDIT:
Unless you mean refresh. Yeah, we tried that too.

Thanks for the ideas, though.

Try a different browser.

Likely that you need to install an addon or activate java scripts… not exactly sure which one it may be…

Hit F11. See what happens.

@Dutchess_III That’s refresh in IE, right? Tried it. Nothing happened.

Get a new mom. That’s all I can think of!

Taciturnu is probably right – the link for Rich Formatting will appear to the left and just above your text input screen. It looks like this… Rich formatting ยป

I agree with @kess – turn Javascript back on.

ChocolateReigns's avatar

@the100thmonkey how exactly do I do that?

Which browser? Internet Explorer 6? 7? 8?

@the100thmonkey 8. I said that in the question :)
