Anybody know any good sites if your moving and don't know anybody there?

Asked by ryan9305 (297points) December 29th, 2010

I currently live in central Wyoming and am really thinking about moving to Northern Colorado but don’t know anybody there. I have heard its a pretty cool place to live and it would offer more carreer opportunities for me since all there is in Wyoming is the oilfield and thats just not me. But what I am wondering is if there are any good sites to meet people or ask them questions. Besides facebook since you have to know people on there.

Ask your current friends if they know anyone in Colorado that would be willing to help. You don’t really need a website to do it, though you could ask your Facebook friends.

Meetup.com

Enter the ZIP code of the area you’re planning to relocate to, check off some of the various interests that you have, and join some of the meetup groups based on age and interest, as well as location.

I was going to suggest Meetup also.

Meetup is good. You could also check out the Yelp reviews in the area and see what places suite your vibe and then sort it out that way.

I third meetup but I used Fluther to find out information when I moved. I suggest visiting there for a long weekend and maybe set up some job interviews. Once you get a job/into school you’ll meet people. Also, take some classes! Take a cooking class, or something like that – whatever interests you! That’s a sure fire way to make some friends.
