How can I change the behavior of my mouse in Windows XP?

Asked by mattbrowne (31729points) December 31st, 2010

About two weeks ago my mouse started to work differently on one of my PCs, although I didn’t change any of the settings. When I click on a word, e.g. in a browser text box or when using Wordpad, it automatically marks a whole word or even a whole paragraph.

I went to Settings – System – Mouse and found nothing that helps.

Any ideas?

What could have triggered this?

If you have a scroll wheel or middle button, make sure that’s not clicked. Also try checking Accessibility options, might be something in there that’s causing this.

Perfect answer. Amazing! The wheel was clicked and I never noticed doing this, but it can be undone.

Yeah it’s happened to me a few times and that’s usually the last thing I try. Happens to the best of us. Glad I could help :)
