What do you prefer, widescreen or fullscreen?

Asked by XOIIO (18328points) January 3rd, 2011

What do you prefer in movies or television? I prefer full screen movies. I just feel like those black bars are a waste of screen.

If there was a way to add a facebook or stock feed, something like that where the lines were I wouldn’t ming ;)

Wide screen!!! I don’t like the movies all chopped up. Shit, you miss so much when it’s full screen. p.s. get a newer, longer flatscreen TV and you wont mind.

Some movies are edited to fit the full screen if not all the action is visible in the square. I’ve seen that a couple of times when I went to the theater and then got the full screen dvd and entire scenes were missing.

I get the widescreen now and if the bands are too big I change my tv display to Zoom 1. Full movie, more used screen, nothing lost.

Wide screen for the full picture.

@Blueroses I wish there was a way to do that on my laptop. It’s a widescreen, but movies still have black bands.

Watching a cropped movie seems wrong to me. like reading a book but skipping the last paragraph on each page.

I prefer full screen now that I have an LCD wide-screen TV. I can still see everything I should, but BIGGER.

On a regular TV, though, I prefer wide screen.

I still have two standard 4:3 ratio monitors. So I prefer full-screen. I hate when movies only take up ⅓rd of the screen. I know I can manually change the movies’ ratios, but they’re all stretched that way and it’s no good at all.
Who wants to buy me a nice big widescreen monitor?

@XOIIO Try Ctrl + to zoom in on your screen?

I could care less about what kind of TV I’m watching. I could be watching a channel that’s full of snow, but if the program is good enough I’ll work through the snow, just like I can just work through the disconcerting distortion of a wide screen, or the black bars of a flat screen (although..I wonder..is anything really “cut off?” Or is that just an impression the the bars give us?)

I used to hate widescreen, but it’s something you work around to get the full enjoyment out of what you’re watching. I used to dislike subbed (subtitled) anime because of the need to always be reading and watching. I got over this easily, it’s really great to hear the voices that were intended for each character.
Similarly, you just won’t get the whole picture (sorry for the pun) without it being widescreen. Kinda funny, they should change the name for widescreen to fullscreen, and fullscreen to just “boxed” or “square”.

@Blueroses It doesn’t work with windows media player.

I’m happy either way…but i do find the black bars annoying.

I have seen a lot of movies with scenes ruined by failed Pan & Scan.
Widescreen for me!
