What are the chances that nobody on Fluther has an answer?

Asked by Ducati_MST (90points) January 5th, 2011

I have not done a search on the absence of answers to questions posted here on ‘Fluther’.

But, I am a bit curious as to the number of questions posted here that have never been answered.

And there would be a reason for that. Software people could tell you that reason.

Not being a software type kind of individual, I would love to know what to type into the Fluther question field that would guarantee an answer?

If you are thinking: “just ask something that everybody knows the answer to:”.....you are not a software type.

It is easy to find unanswered questions by going to any section and clicking the “Orphans” button. As for questions that always get answers, they begin with the tag (NSFW).

There is a list of orphans. It’s been the subject of some discussion from time to time. From what I understand, most of the questions on that list are fairly technical. So, no. Jellies don’t collectively know everything, sad to say.

There is another reason some questions don’t receive answers—the person asking the question fails to provide enough details about their specific experience (particularly technology) to allow an answer. If there are too many unknown variables in the question, it can be challenging to offer a meaningful response.

There are also many questions that receive tons of answers, but none are THE answer.

Most of the unanswered questions seem to be technological ones about things that are very specific, so it’s not likely that there are any other users on Fluther who have experience of it. Or ones that relate to a specific geographical location, when there may not be any other Jelly who knows the area. There are only 35 Orphans in the last 6 months. I think that’s pretty good going.

I’ll have to tell my exhusband about this site and these “orphans”. He’s an authority on everything .
