How can I get rid of dry mouth for the night?

Asked by jabag11 (676points) January 5th, 2011

Every other night or so I get dry mouth in the middle of the night and it keeps me awake, It’s not severe or anything but just bad enough to make it harder to fall back asleep. Even after drinking water in the middle of the night to stop the dry mouth, it is still there.

I found that drinking hot chocolate milk about an hour before bed has helped, but I’m on a diet and am not about to have hot chocolate every night. So please, what are all the ways that one can stop themselves from getting dry mouth through the night?

I am 19 and a male.

They make mouthwash for dry mouth. Check it.

If you’re breathing through your mouth, there’s the issue right there.

They make a spray I used to use for dry mouth. Can’t recall the name, it came in different flavors and they were good. Check GNC and health stores for something like that maybe.

I take a sip of water when I go to bed, then put Vaseline on my lips and it kind of seals them. It helps.
