Can you offer any packing tips for a 3-week business trip to Europe?

Asked by Mamradpivo (9665points) January 12th, 2011

So, I have a 3-week trip planned next week, incorporating tradeshows, customer visits, office time and some personal admin time (apartment hunting, etc). Obviously I intend to do some laundry, but I’d really appreciate any tips you can offer for keeping my belongings to a minimum.

A huge packing tip that I heard years ago was to roll your clothes rather than folding them. I’ve been doing this for quite a while and it works. No creases or fold lines. Also, pack items that do double duty, i.e. pants that can be worn with a t-shirt as well as a dress shirt. Enjoy!

Nothing that needs dry cleaning – use the hotel laundry service.

Pack only things that go with brown shoes/ black shoes etc. That way you can only bring 1 pair of shoes for the entire trip and save room that way.

Pack for a week, launder your clothes twice while there. Plan on buying toothpaste, shampoo, etc. when you get there.

Yes pack and then cut it by at least a half or ⅔.

This question couldn’t have come at a better time! My husband and I are leaving in a week for a trip to South America that will last for three weeks! I also thank everyone for their answers.

Yes, pack what you think you need: then cut it in half.
then, when you are sure that is what you need: cut it in half again.
I use only about 20% of what I pack and carry the rest around, slowly realizing I didn’t even need it. This is very difficult because you have to carry the weight, and worse, you have go through everything to find the things you wear most always such as:
Sandals, great pair of short, one pair of pants, two pairs of sock at most, couple of shirts. You have to appreciate the fact that when you are traveling, you rarely see people twice, so wearing the same outfit is no big deal.
