Is it okay to wash 40°C clothes in 30°C gentle/sensitive?

Asked by eidur (19points) January 13th, 2011

I have some clothes to be washed at 30°C, 40°C and at gentle/sensitive 40°C.
Is it okay for everything to be washed all at once at gentle 30°C?

The only clothes I pay a great deal of attention to are woollen clothes, silks and things with fragile lace or sequins. Those go in a cold wash with a gentle detergent and are hung to dry.

Dark cloths get washed in cold water and my whites in warm water with a cold rinse.

I have never really payed that much attention to the temperature charts on my clothes but the above process has worked out fine.

As far as I know, washing clothes in cooler water than is suggested is never a problem. Many people are washing in cold these days in order to save on energy bills.

We was hall our clothes in cold wter to save energy and I have never detected any problems with that.

I use only cold water for everything, including cashmere sweaters. But I dissolve the detergent powder in a small container of hot water and then add to machine.

Yes.. But probably stuff like underwear need to be washed alone for two reasons: They need a higher degree to clean all the disgusting stuff.. And also because it’s cleaner rather than throwing them with the rest of your clothes.

Not everyone’s underwear has disgusting stuff on it.

Luiveton's avatar

@gailcalled I didn’t mean that kind of disgusting stuff…
I meant the fact that there’s something called Hygiene, if I’m not mistaken , everyone should seperate their underwear from the normal washing clothes.. It’s simply hygiene, otherwise, it’s disgusting.. Ew.

Gee. I mothered two children and three steps.. Four were male; I did uncounted loads of laundry and never separated underwear from other things. Everyone is tall, handsome and healthy.

Occasionally, I’d pick out the dark colors, but usually didn’t even bother with that.

Well sorry I forgot to correct myself, it’s not really important if you’re doing it with males.. But it’s definitely vital with females.
Yes I also pick out the dark colors, and wash the light colors alone, just to prevent bleaching, I hate it when it happens !

I have never washed underwear separately, nor do I know anyone who does.

Wow.. hahah I’m busted then. =\

I’m like @Seelix I have never washed my underwear separately. It’s all getting the water/soap/agitation/rinse process so it is all getting cleaned. I have also never referred to what uncontrollably left behind as disgusting stuff
