Reaction to Women = Evil?

Asked by beccalynnx (459points) January 16th, 2011

Take a peek at this If you don’t already know what i’m talking about.

Alrighty then. I admit it, It’s a tad bit true, and funny. My boyfriend told me this a while ago when we were having a ridiculously stupid argument about finances. yes, it worked, he won the arguement and therefore was allowed to buy Black Ops >.<
Anyways, He’s always been the joker, always being funny. The other night a party he told this to a few of our buddies and oneof their girlfriends flipped out and claimes it was incredibly insensitive and hurtful. Threw a few sexist insults back at the others, failing to make her point. And Even after hearing the joke about half a million times, find it amusing.

I’m wondering,Is it really that terrible?

p.s.I do hope you enjoy the equation. :)

Those who think women are evil must’ve met my mother-in-law!

Seriously though, you need to fix your link.

lillycoyote's avatar

Yeah, your link is bad.

chyna's avatar

I don’t see that it is “flip out” worthy, just really not even amusing or worth my time.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

Ha, I saw this dumb thing hanging in someone’s office when I was a freshman in college years ago. How is that still circulating?

Arbornaut's avatar

How long has this girl been aware of the existence of men?
I could tell you some sexist jokes that would get me shot around here, this sort of thing is trivial.

jerv's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir Ecclesiastes 1:9 sums it up best; “What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again. There is nothing new under the sun.”

@Arbornaut Please do! Just give a little warning to keep those who are easily offended from getting offended unless they are actually seeking out conflict.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@jerv Yeah, I love scripture and how meaningless it is. Thanks for that.

jerv's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir There is a grain of truth to everything, just as a broken clock is right twice a day. I generally don’t believe much of the Bible, but there are some things in it that are true.

Nullo's avatar

That equation omits a very, very important detail: it is the love of money, not money itself, that you can find at the root of all evil.
That is, greed, in its many forms.

This is not to say that women aren’t evil. Sin is evil. People have sin. People are, therefore, evil. Women are people, so women sin, so women are evil. Some people are just more obviously evil than others.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@jerv No, there isn’t a grain of truth to everything, do you really believe that? And please, since we’re playing along here, what does your scripture have anything to do with what I said?

beccalynnx's avatar

@Nullo, Aha! I will have to bring that up to my S/O when I see him next!
Play nice, guys.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@jerv Oy, I see now. Never mind. I must be tired. Sorry about that.

jerv's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir I get the same way first (pre-coffee) post in the morning.

This was a misquote. The original source is Biblical..

“Often misquoted as ‘money is the root of all evil’. Originates in the Bible, Timothy 6:10 (King James Version):

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/238725.html

Considering this, I agree with the young woman who got so upset. I wouldn’t have gone to her hysterics, but it is pretty stupid and insensitive. Not unlike making jokes about black folks.

jerv's avatar

@snowberry If that is offensive though then why don’t we all STFU? I mean, “Nice blouse!” has become sexual harrassment, “black” can’t be used any more, often not even when referring to the color of an inanimate object….

I’m not saying that people don’t legitimately say offensive things, but Ho-lee FUCK is that sensitive! We’ve become so damn thin-skinned that I’m surprised our guts don’t fall out!

TexasDude's avatar

Old.

Also, I feel bad for anyone who is seriously offended by that.

snowberry's avatar

@jery Yeah, you have a point, but that’s why I said I wouldn’t go into hysterics about it.

There is a way to make jokes that don’t demean anyone. Those are the ONLY kind I tell, and in truth, they are clean and funny. At least I get a lot of laughs when I tell them. I have been the brunt of “jokes” told by a bully before (these sort of people can’t seem to be happy unless they can make other folks feel badly). if you confronted him, he’d say, “Hey, grow up already! Can’t you take a joke?” That’s the true definition of a boor IMHO

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I agree with @jerv that people get offended too easily these days. I’m scared half the time to even use the word “black” in a non people way, just because of people freaking out, thinking I’m a racist whitey.

Last week at the grocery store, I was on the phone with a girlfriend, and we were talking about our other girlfriend’s new SUV. I made a comment about “Oh yeah, she’s black and frikkin huge” and, oh crap, there’s a black lady on the same aisle, close enough to hear me. Her head whipped around, her hip cocked out the the side, as she blinked furiously at me and bitched, “Excuse ME?????”

It’s shit like that, that really pisses me off. People are too PC and they take offense to innocent conversations that they don’t understand.

bkcunningham's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate perhaps, if she was heavy, she was saying “Excuse me?” to the frikikn’ huge part of what she heard. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought people were talking to me when they were in public talking on their cellphones in my vicinity.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

I don’t think it is all that funny,or worth a good freak out at all. ;)

Cruiser's avatar

That is the same whacked logic that the nut job Loughner used in his Youtube rants. I agree with @lucillelucillelucille certainly not worth getting upset about.

efritz's avatar

It’s hard to be offended (or amused) by mathematics. I guess it’s kind of funny. The only way this could piss me off is if some beer belly found it really really hilarious.

I will comment that sexist jokes are generally hard to combat; if you don’t like the joke you’re seen as a prissy wet blanket whether it’s funny or not.

DominicX's avatar

I really don’t think it’s terrible at all. It’s funny and it’s meant to be funny. :\

rooeytoo's avatar

I thought it was stupid and I do get offended easily by sexist humor. I think it is more true of lazy no good ex husbands, heheheh.

But hey, aren’t we to say black people anymore? When and why did that become a no no?

SavoirFaire's avatar

If we’re going to pick on the math, why hasn’t anyone complained that “women require time and money” results in “women = time x money” rather than “women = time + money”? At least “money is the root of all evil” is a common saying (even if a misquotation). But the very first step of the problem is misrepresented!

And that’s not addressing how “requires” gets converted into “equals.”

jerv's avatar

@SavoirFaire Very true, but since when have scientific/mathematical facts or accuracy ever had any bearing n popular opinion?

SavoirFaire's avatar

@jerv Indeed. But since other people were commenting on the accuracy of the “proof,” I figured this more fundamental error was worth pointing out.

Anemone's avatar

I thought it was pretty funny. Also, this is a really useful proof which can be applied to all sorts of things! Antiquing, for instance. Or skiing… scrapbooking… cooking… or playing poker. They all take time and money, too. Hobbies in particular = evil. And therefore, logically speaking: hobbies = women.

Wait, what?!?

Winters's avatar

Most times I consider it simply as a fun joke, but there are times where one has to wonder…

ucme's avatar

Yeah playground politics. I remember a friend of mine was called thick as two short planks back in school. He retorted thus….“Planks are made from trees, trees are made of wood, wood makes paper, paper makes books, books make knowledge…who’s thick now prick!?!” Brilliant logic….ish :¬)

nikipedia's avatar

Okay guys, am I misunderstanding math here or something? Why is no one else pointing out the algebraic error here?

If Girls = (Money)^2
and
Money = sqrt(Evil)

Then how do you make the substitution that Girls = (sqrt(evil))^2?

Isn’t the appropriate expression: Girls = (Money)^2 = sqrt(Evil)
therefore
Girls = sqrt(Evil)
therefore
Girls^2 = Evil

ipso facto the problem is lesbians.

nikipedia's avatar

Goddamn it I should not do math while drinking. Sorry.

SavoirFaire's avatar

@nikipedia So lesbians are only a problem when you’re drunk?

nikipedia's avatar

Dude, I think when I’m drunk lesbians might be the solution.

SavoirFaire's avatar

@nikipedia Makes sense to me!

jerv's avatar

@nikipedia Why wait until you’re drunk?

mattbrowne's avatar

Historically the root cause boils down to this: some below average IQ men seem to feel threatened by above average IQ women. So when women knew about herbs and cures for example, let’s call them evil witches. That was the strategy. But humanity has evolved.

jerv's avatar

@mattbrowne I am not so sure we have :/

mattbrowne's avatar

@jerv – We did. Ask your grandmothers. I’m not saying there aren’t any open issues.

Judging from the many stupid responses, it seems that there are more blonde Jellies than I would have expected.
