Best todo apps for getting things done?

Asked by 963chris (1029points) January 17th, 2011

any suggestions for best todo list apps out there? ive researched + tested aplenty from freeware to costly stuff available on a subscription basis. before youmake any suggestions, here are a couple of requirements: (1) must be mobile-ready as well as web, (2) must support multi-user + assignment of tasks (3) must have reminders as a feature – multiple would be even better.

What operating system(s) do you need it to work on?

Basecamp is good and meets all your needs with several options for the mobile app.

Remember The Milk is web based and integrates with a lot of services. It will also send reminders of SMS

@cawlin: winXP or 7 but if its browser-based that wont matter. id rather not have to install traditional software.
@funkdaddy: basecamp is ok but not really a todo list, rather a project management in light form.
@mrlaconic: rtm is good but a bit klunky afa setting things up + viewing (at least when i last tried it).
thx so far folks!

@963chris – you and others getting things done is pretty much a project… when you go into assigning items to other people you’ve gone beyond a basic todo list.

If you’ve dismissed most options out there for one reason or another, those reasons might help eliminate some options and get you pointed in the right direction.

Otherwise it’s just us guessing what you haven’t tried.

@funkdaddy: theres a big diff between basecamp + RTM as i see it + ill better explain to further elucidate. basecamp allows you to set up projects, create writeboards, chat, establish milestones, create granular administration, etc. the todo list is a small part of that overall functionality. in truth its been a while since i last compared apps so thats why i was throwing this out there. rtm was good + robust but a lil klunky. it had the mobility, web, multiperson + todo locked down aside from that. i recal trying google cal (too simple) + looking over some of these: nozbe, action method, attas, tooledo, todoist.

@Seth: thx mate. winderlist looks promising. offhand do you know if you can assign todos to others?

@963chris Yeah, no prob. :D And… no. It allows you to share lists, but you can’t assign specific tasks. Also, the dev team is super awesome and they’re updating it all the time. :D A total recommend. :)

I don’t know if Things is on windows yet, but it’s an amazing GTD app!
