Im good with face recognition. What can I do for career?

Asked by chk8n (106points) January 23rd, 2011

I’m good with other stuff too, but I noticed that I am exceptionally great in memorizing faces after seeing them the 1st-2nd time.
What career choice/path should I take- in terms of being in a working world?

Thank you!

A job where you deal with a lot of different people that you all need to remember? A few things come to mind.
Barkeep?
Public Relations representative?
Therapist of some sort or another?
School teacher? They always have a hard time remembering everyone’s names…

Sales. Name/face recognition is a HUGE asset in the sales profession.

If you can remember a few more key facts about the person..like something personal they told you last time you saw them, the name of their company, their hobbies..so that when you’re at a trade show or large industry meeting you are able to greet 100+ folks with a high level of personalization (i.e.: “Hey Jack, nice of you to join us in frigid NYC..though I hear you’re getting some rare snow in Atlanta this week..too bad they didn’t hold this in Miami so you could school me at golf again…”)...you’d be great.

Do you have equal facility with names? Or are you only good with faces?

I have face blindness. It is a real thing where your brain just doesn’t code facial information properly. It is a pain in the bum! So, I envy you. I would suggest anything where you need to work with people. All the things mentioned above but also customer service, some sort of security work? Customs, security agencies, police (as mentioned). Where they need to remember faces they have seen and recognise them again.

Good politicians can remember everyone they’ve met and recall an interesting fact. It’s how they connect with people. That also works for Sales

I am as well. I never forget a face. Even years later after they have aged, I can recall and know where I saw them from.
Sadly, I did not utilize this as a core skill in my career.
Maybe when I grow up I will!
