Why would my urine be green?

Asked by tan235 (877points) January 25th, 2011

I“m taking Adrenal Support which contains quite a few B Vitamins, however that normally makes my urine yellow but now it’s green.
proper green!
Any ideas – could B vitamins make it green?
I“ve just come of a long haul flight if that could be a contribution?
I doubt I have a urine infection as green is the only symptom.
thanks for any help!

There are many things we eat that will color our fluids. For instance try eating a bunch of beets and see what happens to colors. Anyway you ate something that caused the color and in all the years I have taken B vitamins green is not the result though mixed with other things you eat could do it like beets.

The only thing that has ever turned my urine green is eating asparagus.

I havn’t been eating asparagus, the only new thing i’ve done is take the adrenal support pills oh and tumeric.. but i doubt that would change it?

@tan235 I am not a Doctor but I think you answered your own question—Tumeric should not be taken in quantity with vitamins or liver problems. It can cause liver and bile issues. Bile isuues cause green or blue urine as does high volume B vitamins.

Have you eaten any foods or sweets with blue dye or coloring? That will make you pee green.

@Tropical_Willie can Vitamin B make your pee green though?
I thought yellow – and really tumeric can cause liver issues – how come exactly, tumeric is quite amazing.

This site seems to state the reverse, not hassling, just really interested in this and maybe you know more than this site does @Tropical_Willie… so interested to hear what you know about Tumeric!

@tan235 The site you refer to sells turmeric. That is not a good unbiased source.

Turmeric is a strong antioxidant, also good for digestion. What I said was turmeric should not be taken in high doses with vitamins or if there is a bile problems.
The blue is most probably from B complex vitamins that have been taken in high doses.
