High End Radar Detectors. Worth the Investment?

Thinking of picking up a Valentine 1 or whatever Passport’s current radar detector of the moment is but I’m wondering whether it’s worth ~$400. I understand no radar detector will help with the “instant on” technique so I’d hate to spend the money and then regret it. Has yours saved you or just essentially made your tickets more expensive?

My $30 whistler detector from walmart has saved me many times, including 135 mph in a bmw 335i!

I agree with thetmle 30 bucks has saved me on a few tickets. But valentine would be nice for the direction the signal is coming from. If it saves you on a few tickets then you got your moneys worth its an investment that could be worth it in the long run.
