Is Nathalie Portman going to win the oscar?

Asked by seazen (6123points) January 26th, 2011

Yes, it’s kind of a specific question – but I’m fresh out and wanted to shout out hi to the jellies after another week away.

She looked really cute and pregnant when she won the GG – usually a good indicator of winning the AA.

I haven’t seen Black Swan yet – have you? I do know that she’s been making (mostly) quality films for the past 17 years (!) and attended Harvard to boot. I think she’s a modern day thinking man’s Audrey Hepburn. Your thoughts?

Yes, I do think that Natalie Portman will win the Oscar for Best Actress.

I’m betting not.

@seazen : Aw, it was nothing but the truth.

I think she will. I thought her performance in Black Swan was excellent, she’s very talented.

Natalie Portman inhabited that role. I felt about every way possible towards her character. Impressive.

Yes. It was her best work so far (and I’m a huge fan of hers). She’ll win it, and then I’ll propose to her, and we’ll live happily ever after. Plus, she definitely gets it when compared to the other nominees (whereas for Best Picture, the competition is stiffer.)

You should see it. It’s really quite amazing. Not all years have films of Best Picture quality (but something has to be nominated) but this wasn’t one of them. Seriously, why couldn’t any of these come out in 2009??

Sorry to sound a cyncial note, but the Oscars are far more about politics than quality of performance or film-making. ‘Twas always so. I think Portman was good, but not great. In fact, I liked other performances in “Black Swan” as much or more than hers, and I wasn’t bowled over by the movie itself, interesting as it was.

Don’t know who this “Nathalie” girl is, but I’m sure she gets people confused between her and Natalie Portman.

@erichw1504 You didn’t really bother to write all that about a little typo 13 posts into a thread, did ya?

Yes, she’s going to win, no question about it. And she deserves it, too. She did an outstanding job.

erichw1504's avatar

@seazen Oh, I did. Indeed I did! Haha.

Let’s get a little community bet going—winners have to treat losers to a night on the town.

I liked the movie, but wasn’t crazy about it. She was fantastic in her role, though. She deserves to win.

@Austinlad You’re on. Who do you think will win over Natalie Portman, out of curiosity?

seazen's avatar

Now accepting bets. Will pay 3–1 in lurve.

Austinlad's avatar

Mmmm, not sure yet, @heresjohnny. But I don’t think it’ll be Nat. I just don’t.

She deserves to win the oscar because this was a movie that lived up to its expectaions.
