For Income Tax purposes, is a W-2 Form the same as a 1099R?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) January 30th, 2011

Are both these forms the same, except one is for a retired person and the other is for an active working individual? I am retired and my government only mailed me a 1099R. In using Turbo Tax, it only asks for W-2 information and not a 1099R. Question: is it okay to use the information supplied to me on the 1099R, as though it were a W-2 Form? I see no other place to include this in my tax filing for this year.
