What is the best way to enjoy a wide variety of TV programs in your home without Cable or Satellite TV?

Asked by sanmo01 (20points) February 3rd, 2011

I hate that Cable isn’t ala carte and I don’t like Satellite TV either. Too much money and too little option. What’s the most inexpensive method to few the most programs or channels?

Hulu is great for catching up with TV shows. For movies.. Netflix is also good (but not always the most current). News sites (CNN or NPR or something) for a good variety and they have videos uploaded.

Exactly what I think and what a rip-off for what you get…

Netflix is fantastic for catching up on shows you’ve missed if you don’t mind watching each season a year or so later.

If you want only current shows, you’ll have to put in a little more effort finding them on the net.

But most of the major networks are increasingly becoming aware of the potential for online viewers and are putting most (or many) of their shows on their websites the very next day after they air.

But the catch is that you have to go to their websites to see them. Or go to someplace like Hulu of Fancast.

But you have to do the work of finding and keeping track of which website each show is available on and for how long.

You do save money but it’s a trade off for the time spent hunting down everything.

And there are some shows which don’t have websites showing them at all, so happy hunting :)

If you have plenty of bandwidth you can watch nearly every series and movie out there instantly at sites like these..

There are a few pop ups while navigating to the video page but its well worth it.

(If you have the choice of server for your chosen movie I recommend the LOOMBO ones, they are fast and unlimited bandwidth)

I don’t have cable. I have a an outside antenna and a converter box and get about 10 channels – all the majors and 4 public stations. All totally free. I also pay about $9 per month for the minimum Netflix . My tech savvy son hooked us up with a Roku unit and now there is more stuff than I can imagine. On demand Netflix, Vimeo, Pandora, etc. It is endless. Who cares what or who Snookie does?
