Will a CFA help me get a Finance job?

Asked by MuffinMonarch (148points) February 4th, 2011

I am senior in college from a small university in western carolina. I plan to register for the 1st level of the CFA. My hopes are that along with that and me knowing Englsih,Spanish (I’m also planning to study either Portuguese or French) will help me land a job in Finance as a trader or stock borker (I eventually want to work for a hedge fund as a trader and eventually portfolio manager).

Any thoughts or ideas on other things that can help me stand out from the crown would be greatly appreciated.

Learn Chinese and specialize in international trade. You should be able to name your price.

A CFA will help, so will a Series 7, but you need to be with a FINRA member to sit for the Series 7. The CFA will help your background as an analyst, it will help a lot as an account executive (stock broker).

Trading is a different skill set, and really requires you to start at a basic entry level job at a trading firm. A background in Mathematics is a huge help.
