Has anyone used Zyban to stop smoking and can share their experience?

Asked by grizelda (148points) February 8th, 2011

I am trying (again!) to quit smoking – this time with Zyban… I’ve been taking them for 2 weeks now and my quit date is tomorrow. Cigarettes have been kind of “eww” the past few days, but not enough that I’ve been smoking much less. I’m very keen to hear anyone else’s experience, whether it worked for them, and how long they kept taking the drug after they stopped smoking.

I’m taking it right now (under the name of Wellbutrin-it’s the same drug) and I have to say it’s going better than I thought. I can say “no” to going outside to smoke a lot easier than I could without the drug. A nice side effect is that it’s also made me quite perky and I’ve been a regular little Donna Reed around the house. I think I’ll stay on the Wellbutrin even after I’m totally over the quitting process.

It worked for awhile for me, but I started up again. Seems like everything works for winters for me, but summertime, sunshine, campfires and beer actually spell have a cigarette, Faye, in code!! I haven’t smoked since Dec 15 and that was with about a month of Champix (chantix), but it is very definitely winter here. Good Luck! I say I’ve quit.

I am very wary and oppossed, for the most part, to any brain altering chemicals in pharmaland.

I underwent a 7 week hypnotherapy course and it worked very well for me.

If you arn’t REALLY ready nothing will matter.

It’s all about re-programming your sub-conscious.

I have heard terrible things about Chantix and that is one I would avoid like the plague.

Good luck! You can do it!

To this day when ever I see the color red, a stop sign, anything my brain immediatley associates the color red with clean air! lol

The course cost me $1045 but, I had already spent that on patches, gum, E-cigarettes….blah, blah, blah.

If drugs don’t do it for you try hypnosis. Make sure you find an AMA certified medical hypnotherapist.

Good luck!

I would wholeheartedly recommend Quitnet (http://forums.quitnet.com/community/talk/) – it is a good support site for quitting smoking. I use the forums there and have been quit for over 4 months now. I went cold turkey this time, but have used nrt’s in the past. I never tried zyban though, you can pose that question on quitnet and I’m sure someone will tell you about it.
