Is there a brand of instant tea that is really good?

Asked by Aster (20023points) February 9th, 2011

I’ve been craving tea lately although apple cider is good, too. But I don’t want to buy half a dozen jars of instant tea just to find they’re no good. Know of any delicious instant tea?

Just get the damn Tea Bags and heat up some water. :P

You can never go wrong with Earl Grey.

The best instant tea with lemon, we have ever had came from Safeway Stores. It has the most natural tea taste from a can.

But they went out of business here. LOL I didn’t think of a can. I was thinking of a glass jar of concentrated crystals. darn; I should have explained that part.

Aster, I was not aware that Safeway went out of business. They still have stores in Washington State. Anyway, second best on the list is Krogers. They have other names in different states. It’s their store brand, in a can, that is also excellent. Hope you have better luck this time. john

MarketSpice Tea

Made here in Seattle. It’s expensive but really really good. I can say that from a person who doesn’t like tea because it all tastes like water… this is really really good.

Edit: corrected the link

Celestial Seasoning’s Morning Thunder is the best caffenated tea ever! Yes EVER!

I like bagged decaf green tea. You can’t go too wrong—I’ve had one that tasted godawful, but most brands are good that I’ve found. (I’d avoid The Mighty Leaf… which is sad since the name’s fun)
The generic at Safeway (yeah, well, it’s where I am) and Whole Foods is good. I also like Lipton’s and Bigelow’s for the cheaper-of-the-middle end. Tazo’s Chinese Green Tips (Starbucks, and don’t steep too long) and Whole Foods Allegro (especially) are good but more expensive. I’ve had other brands that I can’t remember the name of. I usually just get what’s on sale, though, so I don’t know all the high-end pricey stuff that well. ; ]

I like green tea because it’s got a really nice, clean taste when I’ve got the water the right temperature and it’s steeped the right amount of time. When I don’t, I think the taste tastes.. scattered? I’m kinda picky on tea though so maybe it’s just me.

If you can find it, Republic of Tea’s Honeysuckle White Tea is superb. It’s a delicate but yummy flavor. I’ve been in search of it ever since I had it at a coffee shop once. So if you find it, you’re luckier than me!

I love tea, but I just don’t care for instant tea (although I prefer instant coffee to brewed coffee go figure). So I’m gonna have to say for you to go for the tea bags and my favorites are Awake and Om by Tazo, and then I like Trader Joe’s Earl Grey.

You don’t even have to heat up a kettle. Just put your mug of water in the microwave for 1 min 30 seconds, then dunk your teabag for about a minute. That’s almost instant!

Axemusica's avatar

That’s what I’m saying @Kardamom it’s not long it takes that long even with a kettle. It’s like microwaving a poptart, are you in that much of a hurry? lol

Second vote for Earl Grey – most nutritious acc to studies. (Due to the blend they use).

Instant tea is an abomination.

@Kardamom I was about to write that any half decent kettle will boil a cup of water in considerably less than 90 seconds, but then I remembered that the US has 110V electricity compared to our 240V here, so electric kettles are way quicker over here as they can pack far more power

Instant tea is usually too sweet or too chemical tasting for me. Have you ever tried Lipton’s Cold Brew Ice Tea? One tea bag makes a quart of perfect iced tea in cold water in about 10 minutes. A quart’s about 3 good sized glasses of tea.

@Aster We should probably ask you why you would want instant tea as opposed to tea bags?

If you think it would take too long to make iced tea, do what I do. Get a glass measuring cup, put about a half a cup of water in it and then put it in the microwave for one minute (it should boil or at least be hot enough for a tea bag because there is such a small amount of water) In the meantime fill an iced tea glass with ice and cold water, but leave enough room for the ½ cup in the microwave. Take the hot water out and dunk your tea bag for about a minute, which will result in a slightly concentrated cup of tea, but remember, you will be pouring it into the glass which already has ice and water in it, which will dilute it. Voila! You’ve got a glass of iced tea.

You can do the same thing for a pitcher of iced tea, by using one of those bigger glass measuring cups (that holds about 2 cups of water) but only fill it about ¾’s full, heat your water in the microwave for about 3 minutes, fill your pitcher with ice and water (leaving enough room for the water in the measuring cup) steep about 10 tea bags for about 3 to 4 minutes. Then pour that into your picture. Your done!

Of course, bagged teas are better, but if you must have instant, Arizona brand teas are the best.
