Is there social security in Mexico?

I was wondering if Mexico has social security for its citizens and the basics about it.
How old do you need to be to start collecting?
How many years do you need to have paid into it?
Can you collect if you live out of country?
Is there any requirement to have lived in Mexico recently?
If you have a link to a government webpage with more info that would be great. Spanish is ok for the link.

You need to be at least 60 and have worked for at least 500 weeks.

@bob_ I don’t remember if you are American or Mexican, but I wondered if off the top of your head if you know if Mexicans are supposed to pay taxes to Mexico on earned income in the US if they are green card status here in America.
@JLeslie You’re welcome. I am Mexican. I’m not sure, but off the top of my head, I don’t think so. As long as you pay taxes somewhere, you should be fine.
Honestly, the English was confusing, different terminology then I am accustomed to. Actually, I looked up American Social Security a week ago with a girlfriend of mine who is in her 60’s and that was very confusing to me also lol.
I am just going to send the Spanish link to my husband and see if he thinks his father can benefit. He definitely worked 500 weeks, probably more like 1500.
@JLeslie Automatic online translations are not reliable, especially when so many technical words are used.
The 500 weeks have to have been worked in Mexico, registered with the Mexican Social Security Institute.
@bob_ Yes, I am talking about working in Mexico. Aren’t the taxes for social security collected when you pay your annual income tax?
@JLeslie No, the company you work for deducts them from every paycheck.
Obviously, if you worked in the informal sector of the economy (i.e., didn’t pay taxes), you wouldn’t get any benefits.
@bob_ I am not sure what informal means in that context? He was a business owner most of his career.
@bob_ Sorry to ask so many questions. I need to bring up the topic with some knowledge going in, because they perceive me as a little bit of a pain in the neck. I don’t want to bring up the topic unless I think there is a good chance they are eligible.

He must have paid taxes I would think? He owned property, owned businesses, at least in America most business owners would declare some earnings, even if they skimmed off the top. But, then, I am a big time rule follower, afraid of getting caught. Not sure how it all works down there, and this was many years ago. They came to the US about 15 years ago. Not sure if these sort of things were looser back in the day in Mexico.
