How much are you supposed to tip your Federal Express package delivery professional?

Asked by 12Oaks (4051points) February 13th, 2011

Since it would be hard to determine a percentage of value, not sure if it is done by weight of package, flat fee, size of package, etc.

I have never tipped a FedEx or UPS carrier at all, any more than I would think of tipping a U.S. mail carrier.

I’ve never tipped a FedEx or UPS carrier either. Why would you? They make decent money, and it’s their job. Unlike restaurant waitstaff, who are paid something like $2.90 an hour.

My family usually got him a small Christmas gift every year. But then my dad got packages from UPS and FedEx almost every day. If you don’t get packages often, you don’t have to tip them unless they go above and beyond the expected norms.

Never have tipped and never will. They make pretty good money compared to a waitress. I give a $5.00 tip at each meal and glad to do it.

We don’t tip, because they never stay around long enough; just lay the package down and drive away.

@Jeruba We give our mail delivery lady a $20 gift every year.

I give my regular U.S. mail carrier an annual gift, too. But I don’t tip per delivery.

I’ve never tipped a driver for the US Post Office, Fedex, UPS, or any other carrier. In fact, I don’t think I tip anyone except waiters/waitresses, hairdressers and bellboys.

I have never tipped, but I think if you see them fairly often, a small holiday gift might be nice. Totally optional, though.

I don’t even tip my mail delivery lady because I don’t know who she is. For 12 years I’ve had three different women both at our former house and this one.

I’ve never tipped a delivery guy. I know a man who works for UPS who regularly encounters “desperate housewives” in lingerie attempting to coerce him into their home. I can’t believe people actually do that.
