How would you describe the sound of your own laughter?

Asked by ucme (50047points) February 16th, 2011

Yeah, if you can put it into words that is. I’m talking genuine full-on laughing here. None of your giggles or chuckles. I regularly see abbreviated examples on here which denote laughter, you know the kind of stuff….lol, rofl & various other idiotic…....descriptive terms. I’d like to know how your laugh actually sounds though. Laughter can be infectious or irritating, hilarious or weird. As well as being particular to an individual, unique if you like. Which type have you got? Try your best with this, it could prove to be tricky.

It’s horrifying, actually.

Loud and obnoxious, to some.

I’ll ask my SO.

My laughter is a mix of chesty and throaty noises. It’s genuine laughter, not a hacking kind of noise. It comes out as a cross between a “huh” and a “ha”.

I like my laugh. I actually worked on it in my teen years because I didn’t want it to be grating. Although when I am laughing hysterically much of it is silent.

ucme's avatar

@hawaii_jake So you laugh doing an Elvis impression then? Huh ha…thangyoo verry much :¬)

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

@ucme : It’s a cross between Elvis and Iggy Pop.

Well, there’s the one that sorta sounds like a chipmunk or a hyena or something. And then there’s what a friend recently described as my “Satan laugh”, because apparently it sounds like a “ha. haha. hahahahaha… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!” sorta thing with an evil plan, even though most of the time, I really haven’t seeded any evil plans…

According to the SO:

depends on how hard you are laughing. You have a quiet, subtle feminine laugh. I can tell when you think something is really funny because it loses the subtlety and you break loose with uncontrolled laughter. It’s still very soft and feminine though. You have a pretty laugh.

This is hard. I know what it sounds like but to put it in words…..it depends. Sometimes if I’m laughing really hard it’s completely silent with a little bit of wheezing going on…but usually it’s an outburst, a loud and fast one that tends to keep going and going…it’s not deep but not high…with a little bit of evil mixed in, a bit of a cackle and a bit of a MMMMMMMMUAHAHA.

I wish something would make me laugh really hard right now so I could re-evaluate..

In my mind I think it’s cute and lady like. But when I listen to the sound of my voice on tape, I don’t really like what I hear. It sounds deep and manly throaty.

Lol….not good….I’ve been told it has a “The Joker” quality to it…mainly the style

aprilsimnel's avatar

It’s almost tinkly.

Thanks peeps. I’ve been told mine sounds a lot like this. Actually that’s quite disturbing to know but, hey ho the merrio :¬)

Some people say my laugh sounds dirty…I sometimes do a witch cackle too!
If I get a fit of giggles I end up sounding like Muttley

Similar to Spicoli.

joking, kinda ;)

zenvelo's avatar

Unremarkable. No one has ever remarked on it.

DominicX's avatar

No idea. I remember when a couple friends and I were discussing some people’s embarrassing laughing styles, one person remarked that my laugh was “harmless”. My boyfriend says it’s “cute” but that doesn’t really tell me much. I’m not sure how to describe it. I’d record it and post it here, but then it would be forced…

I have a great laugh—comes from lots of practice.

I think I have a nice laugh, but, I have never asked anyone.

Nothing obnoxious, no snorting or other offensive sounds.

I am a very humorous type, so, my laughter is genuine and heartfelt and I am prone to cracking myself up with my own inanities. I laugh at my laughter. ;-)

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Obnoxious?
I think my laugh is pretty offensive. I don’t snort or do anything strange, but when I laugh.. I laugh. I also slap my knee. For real.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@ANef_is_Enuf I’d rather hear an obnoxious laugh, full of snorts and slaps, than not hear laughs.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Oh, and sometimes after I’ve been laughing for a while no sound will come out. I sit there with my mouth hanging open and heaving like laughter should be rolling out… but… silence. Maybe the occasional ah.. ah.. ahh… but not quite like the count. ;)
@MyNewtBoobs we should get along just peachy, then.

Thunderous….. Lol, Rofl, Lmfo…….. :-/

nellybar's avatar

@ANef_is_Enuf That happens to me after my muttley laugh – and I turn bright red with tears streamin!

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@nellybar ohh, I definitely get the bright red face, too.

ZEPHYRA's avatar

Cackling!!!!!! The ringing of my laughter, it sounds like a hag-like melody!

cak's avatar

If I am laughing really hard, it might be completely silent, then this burst of laughter will come out. I don’t know really how to describe it, but it seems to make others laugh. Not sure if that is a good thing about my laughter.

Brian1946's avatar

Sometimes I don’t really laugh per se; if I find something really funny, I’ll just belt out, “Ell oh ell!”. ;-)
Otherwise, my laugh is like David Letterman’s.

cbloom8's avatar

Silent – I’ve noticed that a lot of the time I laugh, I’m actually making the expression and not releasing sound. Kind of odd, but I’m a pretty quiet person, so it’s understandable. When I laugh audibly, though, I would describe it as ‘booming’ or ‘deep’.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

It sounds like SpaghettiO’s :)

aprilsimnel's avatar

Wait, now I remember! A couple of my friends have told me that my laugh is like Betty Rubble’s. I couldn’t recall before, so I said “almost tinkly”.
