What do you do for a stomach virus?

Asked by jca (36062points) February 20th, 2011

I have diarrhea and my stomach feels like it’s churning. I assume this is a stomach virus since my daughter’s school had it going around this week. It’s now about 4 a.m. and I can’t sleep, which is why I’m Fluthering!

What’s the best thing to do or drink to feel better?

Ginger is good for settling the stomach. If you have ginger tea have some. For me after about an hour of churning it’s 12 hours of barfing, so my most realistic advice is to bring a bowl to bed with you and cancel your appointments for the next day. :(

Feel better!!

^^ yep ginger ale also soothes the stomach

Flat ginger ale, the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast – no butter), and saltines are all good for settling your stomach. Also, be sure to drink plenty of fluids… it’s easy to get dehydrated. Hope you feel better soon!

All you can really do is wait it out. Treat the symptoms and get rest.

Water is often too irritating. Drink Gatorade when you get thirsty. Very important to stay hydrated.

Don’t worry about food for a few days. If you are like most people (myself included), you have enough fat reserves to survive a few days without eating.

I love strawberry-lemonade Powerade when I’m sick. And crackers when I can eat.
