What is the best treatment for acne?

Asked by nir17 (371points) February 21st, 2011

The past year or so I’ve just had random breakouts (pretty constant, actually) and I’m sick of it. I’ve tried all kinds of face washes and am now considering either seeing a dermatologist to get a prescription or buying a product like SkinID or Proactiv. Does anyone have any experience (positive or negative) with these products?

My son was just put on an antibiotic (oral) for 10 days, twice a day down to once a day after that 10 days. He is also on a prescription strength creme. The pills and the creme have nearly cleared up his face. It’s been a dramatic change.

Drink lots of water, avoid fatty foods, and use a salicylic acid based toner and oil free moisturizer daily. (You need the moisturizer to protect your pores from dirt that cause acne)
Also, keep your hands off your face.

I had tetracycline for 30 days and have been pretty okay ever since. Try putting 1 tbsp of vinegar in a clean sink of hot water. Rinse your skin and pat dry. The pickle smell goes away fast. The acid in the vinegar kills bacteria and tightens your skin a little. This is easier on your skin and much cheaper. Buy a small bottle of tea tree oil for a breakout.

How old are you if you don’t mind me asking?
When I was going through puberty up to when i was 16 or 17
I had excessive acne and dermatologist prescriptions really didnt help.
now that i’m older my face is finally clear.
so depending on your age. waiting it out is often an option.

I actually came across this idea and thought no way does this work.. Well since i had an aloe vera plant on hand why not.. Well someone told me to put a piece of aloe vera on your pimple and it will heal it.. Just take off the jelly type substance from the plant and place it on your pimple then let it dry and the next day it will be healed.. I was SHOCKED at the results.. It actually works.. Not sure about acne, but hey, it’s worth a try at least.. ;o)

Consistency. I just do face wash and moisturizer but I find that if I skip a night, I break out a couple days later.

I saw a dermatologist, found out what drugs and doses I should be taking, and haven’t looked back. My skin problems aren’t completely gone, but they are insignificant now. I just need to remember to manage it correctly, and I’m fine.

Eat extremely healthy, was your face once in the morning and once at night with a non-scented plain soap, use new pillow cases everynight and go to a dermatologist.
